Employment Opportunity: Traineeship (Racecourse Curator/Track Manager - Cert III) – Multiple Positions Throughout NSW

Racing NSW is responsible for the leadership and regulation of thoroughbred horse racing in NSW including the provision of services for the training of apprentice and trainees in this state.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for jobseekers to gain a 2-year Traineeship in Cert III Racecourse Curator / Track Management and Maintenance with Racing NSW. The successful applicants will be part of a team focused on improving and managing racecourse surfaces, training tracks and facilities throughout NSW.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a person passionate about turf management. An understanding of the Australian racing industry is an advantage though not essential.

The positions will be based at various racecourses throughout NSW.

• participate in ongoing learning and be willing to learn new skills and techniques
• have good written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
• prepared to work with diverse range of individuals and groups
• maintain a current driver’s license

Responsibilities:
To learn in a 2-year traineeship all facets of Track Management and Maintenance and of a Racecourse Curator including:
• Establish and implement a grassed area maintenance program and monitor turf health
• Interpret sample soils, analyse and implement a plant nutrition program
• Provide information on plants and their culture
• Control weeds, plant pests, diseases and disorders
• Renovate turf racing surfaces
• Assisting with race meeting track maintenance
• Operate pressurised irrigation systems
• Operate machinery and equipment
• Implement and monitor environmentally sustainable work practices
• Maintain workplace safety and contribute to WHS processes
• Participate in workplace communications

Successful applicants will be part of a team focused on improving and managing racecourse surfaces, training tracks and facilities throughout NSW. Pathway to full time employment – all previous successful applicants who completed their training are now employed full time by a race club in NSW.

The two-year traineeship covers all facets of track management and maintenance and becoming a racecourse curator. A Traineeship will be located at the following NSW racecourses:

• Manning Valley Race Club Taree
• Wyong Race Club
