Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory (ARFL) is a division of Racing NSW which undertakes an integrity function the analysis of blood and urine samples from horses and jockeys in NSW and interstate.
The facility uses highly sophisticated mass spectrometric equipment and other techniques to detect and confirm the presence of prohibited substances in samples to legally defensible criteria. ARFL is a NATA accredited Laboratory.
Racing NSW invites applications for the full time position of Technical Assistant in the drug testing laboratory section of ARFL.
Your duties would include:
- Receipt of samples into the laboratory and entering the details into the laboratory sample management system.
- Ensuring chain of custody for samples is maintained.
- Purchasing and stock control
- General laboratory functions including preliminary sample preparation, general laboratory housekeeping and assisting the scientific and technical staff as required.
Applicants should possess the following:
- A minimum Certificate IV Laboratory Techniques or significant experience in a similar role. A degree in a relevant field will be considered an advantage.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Good organisational skills with the ability to multitask.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a team environment with scientific and technical staff as well as working autonomously is essential.
- Knowledge of NATA accreditation requirements to ISO/IEC 17025 or experience working in an accredited laboratory desirable.
