Newcastle Jockey Club Ltd. (NJC) is a leading NSW Provincial Thoroughbred Racing Club located 160km north of Sydney on the coast and adjacent to the Hunter Valley.
The Club employs both permanent and casual staff across a range of racing, administrative and hospitality activities at Newcastle Racecourse.
NJC is calling for exceptional applicants to oversee and coordinate all racing operational activities at Newcastle Racecourse.
Reporting to the Admin Operations Manager and liaising closely with the CEO and GM, Track & Facilities Manager, this position will be responsible for the overall quality and efficiency of superior racing and raceday operations and will be required to:
• Attend all race meetings and trials and provide adequate rostering of casual raceday staff for owners areas, tie-up stalls, industry area gates and Jockeys rooms;
• Communicate relevant information to Track and Hospitality teams effectively to ensure racing venues are performance ready
• Maintain up-to-date race records following each race meeting including race outcomes and statistics
• Support the development of the Annual Race Program and Calendar to maximise turnover
• Prepare and lodge all raceday sign-off reports to Racing NSW following each raceday
• Report, monitor and review racing data for management and Racing Sub Committee reporting including information regarding wagering turnover and race analytics
• Coordinate and develop/refine procedures for racing department staff to access and understand effective policies, procedures and other documentation in order to meet WHS requirements within both an industry and club context
• Ensure compliant and timely administration of the terms of the clubs Trainer’s Agreements regarding provision of information to the Accounts department for trainer’s billing/invoicing
• Take a pro-active role in the monthly racing sub-committee (RSC) meetings inclusive preparation of meeting Agendas and Minutes
• Act as the key club contact for racing industry staff (Jockeys, Trainers etc), and
• Adhere and promote NJC’s commitment to safety
To be successful in this role:

• Minimum 2 years proven experience and understanding of active racecourse operations will be highly regarded
• A goal oriented, task driven work ethic
• A passion and interest in racing with a drive to help team members and stakeholders to experience a positive racing experience
• Demonstrated excellence with interpersonal, verbal and written skills
• High level administration skills including report writing and minute taking
• Strength with process and planning functions, and
• A proven capacity to work well under pressure with excellent time management and ability to prioritise competing deadlines
