Workplace Trainer & Assessors
Racing NSW is the statutory body for horse racing in NSW with a committed and progressive Industry Training department.
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for passionate and motivated individuals to join our dynamic Team Thoroughbred NSW Training Academy, the approved Registered Training Organisation (RTO 45565) of Racing NSW.
Functioning across NSW, the successful candidates will join a dedicated team focused on the training and assessment of racing industry participants across qualifications such as stablehand trackwork rider, racehorse trainer and jockey.
The Workplace Trainer and Assessor will be responsible for:
- Ensure all training and assessments are delivered in a timely manner
- Plan, prioritise and organise workflow including workplace visits
- Plan, implement and co-ordinate a skills development program for individual workers to AQF standards which:
- Meets all requirements of the national Racing Training Package
- Addresses language, literacy and numeracy issues within learning and assessment practice
- Provides training through instruction and demonstration of work skills
- Make professional judgments of competency based on collected evidence
- Selects delivery approaches which motivate which motivate and engage learners
- Reviews and improves all learning programs
- Plan and organise group-based delivery where appropriate
- Plan and organise on-line delivery where appropriate
- Participate in assessment validation with colleagues and industry when required
- Provide student progress reports and feedback within agreed timeframes
- Researching, reading, analysing and interpreting workplace specifications
- Deliver Racing introduction days to participants
The successful applicant will ideally possess the below attributes:
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40112 or equivalent)
- The vocational competencies and/or experience in the racehorse industry as a riding instructor, horse trainer or professional rider, foreperson
- A valid and current Working with Children Check (WWCC)
- Be able to work co-operatively as a part of a team
- Be self-motivated with a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Be prepared to travel to racecourses, trackwork and stable visits at various locations
- Have good administration skills with the ability to complete essential records in accordance with compliance requirements
- Well-developed computer and software application skills
- Current drivers’ licence
- Quality focused, flexible, and adaptable
Applicants must have excellent customer service skills, practical understanding of workplace health and safety, and a commitment to skills development for the industry. You must be able to work a range of hours, with many days starting during early trackwork hours. You will be reliable and punctual and will have previous horse industry experience.

- Central Districts
- Southern Districts
- Western Racing
- Hunter & North West
