Racing NSW has been informed of the passing of Southern Districts trainer Mr Norm Shinn aged 90.
Mr Shinn died last week in Sydney surrounded by family.
A talented horseman, Norm Shinn came from Tumut where he first trained before heading to Wagga.
Shinn won the 1975 Wagga Town Plate with Cabramatta Jack but one of his best horses was Tauro.
That galloper won eight races and was placed six times from 36 starts and among those wins were three at Randwick (including the Country Cup), one at Rosehill and one at Warwick Farm. The remaining four victories were at Wagga.
Wagga trainer Gary Colvin told Matt Malone of the Wagga Advertiser: "Norm was a very shrewd and well-liked trainer.
"We stayed in contact for a long time - he was a fantastic bloke who could tell great stories."
Shinn also trained for a period at Warwick Farm before spending a short time training in Queensland before returning to Goulburn to be with his family.
Mr Shinn will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetry, Leppington at 2pm on Monday, 25th March 2024.
