Neil Evans' Tips For Tamworth (Monday)

By Neil Evans

Track Good 4 and rail out 3m from 1000m to 300m, then True the Remainder so predominantly on or just off the speed

Race 1 MAIDEN PLATE (1000m):

The maidens get us underway at set weights, and debutant 3YO filly 6. Galaxy Rock (Stratum x Cosmic Debris by Northern Meteor) from the Cameron Crockett stable at Scone has been given plenty of time, and looks ready to fire off two trials.

Dangers: Another Scone-based first starter 2YO filly 13. Star Dreamer (Star Witness x Pie 'n' the Sky by Zeditave) is bred to fly, and looks forward off a recent trial. Muswellbrook 4YO 1. Craig's My Boy hasn't started for nine months, but has also trialled well.

How to play it: Galaxy Rock to win. Odds and Evens (First 2): Split

Race 2 MAIDEN PLATE (1600m):

Similar conditions but out to the mile. Progressive 3YO filly 13. Pannier Dame from the Kris Lees yard at Newcastle is primed to strike at third start, with blinkers going on. Finished strongly here last run, bred to get over ground, and will park around midfield with a stack of cover.

Dangers: Expect Wyong 4YO 4. Sethlans to be running on again fifth-up from a good draw, and blinkers coming off. Scone 3YO 5. Shame Warned is unpredictable, but hard fit and with enough ability. Was only run down in the last stride here third-up, but up in weight and drawn off the track. Cessnock colt 6. Snobby Shores hit the line well in a CL1 at Grafton, but also up sharply in weight; while Newcastle filly 11. Gloraya mixes her form, but draws to get a good trail and will find this easier than last-start flop at home.

How to play it: Pannier Dame to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Pennier Dame runs third at Tamworth on May 4

Race 3 MAIDEN HCP (1400m):

Open contest, with plenty of chances. Liked the first-up effort of 3YO filly 5. Fu Ni from the Lees stable in a handy maiden at Taree, and can improve again with top country rider going on. By a former Cox Plate winner out of Group 1-winning mare, and better off drawn out where she can get to the outside and launch late.

Dangers: Armidale filly 13. Pair Of Heels has been up for a while, and consistently in and around the money. Won't get a better chance to break through drawn to receive a charmed run just off the speed. Home track 3YO 2. Manseneta resumes off a quiet trial for leading stable, and blinkers come off; while local 4YO 9. Hardyo has been threatening for a while, and draws to get a handy run.

How to play it: Fu Ni to win and trifecta 2,5,13/2,5,9,13/2,5,9,13. Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 4 BM 58 HCP (1600m):

Any number of hopes here in a typical restricted race over the mile. Local 6YO gelding 5. Sadler's Rest from the Craig Martin stable is hard fit, and backs up quickly after sweeping home at big odds to win a CL1 here. Will settle back from the same gate, although has to carry 2.5kg more.

Dangers: Quirindi 9YO 2. Valatia can pick and choose the day, but rattled home to win a thinner BM 58 here last start, and this is his pet distance having won six from eight. Moree 4YO Moree mare 7. Elavada has more to offer than her disappointing last few efforts, and gets some much-needed weight relief; while Newcastle 3YO 1. Ski Missile will find this easier than his last two, and is best of the rest.

How to play it: Sadler's Rest each way and box trifecta 1,2,5,7. Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 5 CLASS 3 HCP (1400m):

Good open race, again with plenty of chances. Local 4YO gelding 6. Blazing Tycoon from the leading Cody Morgan yard can go back-to-back despite stepping up sharply in a class. Swept home impressively here in a CL1, and was highly touted in his 3YO days in Victoria.

Dangers: Muswellbrook mare 10. Belle Of Portugal will need some luck from a wide draw, but she's hit the line hard from well back in her last three after charging home to win a BM 58 at home. Looms as the best weighted runner in the race down 4kg. Wyong mare 11. Trescha was even through the line here resuming under a big weight, and also drops 4kg for this. Already a winner on this track, and second-up. Progressive Scone 6YO 5. Magnarock is working towards another win after finishing on strong this grade at Narromine, and stable has made some key gear changes. Honest Newcastle 4YO 2. Opinions was a strong CL2 winner four runs back before holding his own in tougher grade last couple. Better suited here, but up to 59kg is not well treated at the weights.

How to play it: Blazing Tycoon and Belle Of Portugal both each way; and first four 5,6,10,11/5,6,10,11/2,5,6,10,11/2,5,6,10,11. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 CLASS 1 HCP (1200m):

Keen on talented 4YO mare 6. A Room Somewhere having her first run for the Scone yard of Brett Cavanough off a long break and dominant trial win at Muswellbrook where she showed effortless mid-trial acceleration in running one of the quicker times of the day. Been over a year since her impressive debut win in a handy field at Nowra for the Joe Pride stable, but appears ready to reload with winkers coming off.

Dangers: Drawn nicely right alongside, 3YO Newcastle filly 3. Hard Lady is a clear threat first-up off two trials, and normally comes to hand quickly. Include improving local 4YO 4. Rapid Eagle who was hard in the market leading all the way second-up at Muswellbrook, and draws the inside.

How to play it: A Room Somewhere each way and quinella 3 and 6. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 7 BM 58 HCP (1200m):

The wide battles continue. Local 4YO and former Victorian 1. Tavion Prince has his first start for the local Craig Martin stable resuming off a six month break without a public trial. Has a smart fresh record and reportedly done plenty of work. Went around at cricket score odds in two Group 1s as a 3YO in the Sydney autumn last year.

Dangers: Honest Newcastle 5YO 3. Titus is up in weight, but will find this easier than good last start closing effort in a BM 64 at Gosford; while include progressive Scone 3YO 6. Warrah Flash who charged home to win a strong maiden at home, and well ready for the next step.

How to play it: Tavion Prince to win and box exacta 1,3,6. Odds and Evens: Split.

Race 8 BM 58 HCP (1000m):

We close the meeting with a Heat of the Rising Star over the short course, and lightly raced smart 3YO filly 7. Agrapart can cap a big day for local trainer Cody Morgan. Scored a dominant first-up maiden win here, and down in weight after the claim looks the one to beat.

Dangers: Local 4YO 2. Lord Tony is also well placed from a cosy draw after a tough third-up win in a BM 66, although up significantly in weight; while Newcastle 4YO 3. Patagonian resumes as a gelding from a good draw off a nice trial, but also hasn't escaped the handicapper.

How to play it: Agrapart to win. Odds and Evens: Split.
