Neil Evans' Tips For Tamworth (Monday)

By Neil Evans

Track Good 4 and rail true so should play predominantly fair

Race 1 CL3 HCP (1000m):

Competitive opener, with good depth, and quietly keen on 6YO Wyong mare 6. Cunningar Lass who has been banging on the door in her last few in solid Class 2 company, although drawn wide and a little concern senior rider has hopped off.

Dangers: Newcastle 5YO gelding 1. Sausalito should improve after one run back, but not well off at the weights giving some useful ones 5kg. Never quite sure what's coming with 5YO local mare 7. Fussdinado who powered home to win a BM 58 this track three runs back, but hasn't fired a shot in her last two. Drops significantly in weight, though, and drawn to be in the finish. Include ex-Queensland 6YO Gilgandra gelding 3. Strictly Legit who draws the inside, and gets in light after rider's 3kg claim; while rival 5YO Gilgandra mare 8. Ms Wicked Nici comes out of that same race at Moree as Fussdinado when running on late, and leading country rider has been booked.

How to play it: Cunningar Lass to win and box trifecta 1,3,6,7,8. Odds and Evens (First 2): Split.

Race 2 MAIDEN HCP (1200m):

Open and potentially strong maiden, with a few second-up runners and a couple of debutants in the mix. Scone 4YO gelding 1. Greenskeeper was good first-up at home behind a smart one who has since won again, so the form-line is strong, but he's drawn wide.

Dangers: Watch the market on debutant 3YO Newcastle gelding 5. All Reign (Albrecht x Crowning Around by Beautiful Crown) who was ridden very conservatively in a recent Wyong trial, but cruised through the line under a hold; while another 3YO Newcastle-based gelding and first starter 7. Skull Cap (Helmet x Steflara by Zabeel) comes out of a deep Wyong trial where the second horse came out and won on debut at Scone on Friday.

How to play it: Greenskeeper to win. Odds and Evens: Odds.

Race 3 MAIDEN PLATE (1400m):

Keen on 4YO Scone gelding and first starter 4. Hardyo (All Too Hard x Yolane by Zizou) who looks forward enough for this trip off two strong trials, and draws to get the right run.

Dangers: Promising 3YO Newcastle colt 10. Misterzee looks a real threat up marginally in trip after a big closing run on debut at Muswellbrook. Scone 5YO gelding 1. Bandjin Rain has been threatening to break through all prep. Was only run down late at Armidale last start over the same trip, and draws to control it again, and was scratched from Pt Macquarie on Sunday; while expect sharp improvement from 3YO Newcastle filly 12. Divine Dream who has been tackling stronger provincial maiden company, and draws the fence fifth-up.

How to play it: Hardyo each way and quinella 4 and 10. Odds and Evens: Evens.

Race 4 CL1 HCP (1400m):

Progressive 4YO Newcastle gelding 1. Mr Piquet can take the next step third-up, with the blinkers off, despite lumping 60kg. Bolted in his maiden first-up at Kempsey before finishing hard to just miss at Muswellbrook, and was scratched from Pt Macquarie on Sunday.

Dangers: Wyong 4YO mare 5. Trescha looks the big threat despite failing to hit the line in that same race at Tuncurry. Previously swept home on this track to beat Salsa Dreaming who then scored a dominant win from the back at Scone on Friday. Include local 4YO mare 6. She Just Said It who flew home from the rear to win her maiden second-up at Armidale, and extra trip suits for a trainer going places; while 6YO Taree mare 3. Hold All Tickets is better than her one win from 25 suggests, and while she was a little flat late at Tuncurry, draws to do no work behind the speed.

How to play it: Mr Piquet to win. Odds and Evens: Odds

Mr Piquet runs second at Muswellbrook on September 16

Race 5 CL2 HCP (1200m):

As long as the inside holds up, promising 3YO Newcastle colt 4. Star Raider looks one of the better bets all day. After bolting in his maiden, flew home second-up behind a smart sprinter at Muswellbrook, and extra trip looks ideal, and stable preferred here over Pt Macquarie on Sunday.

Dangers: Scone 5YO mare 3. Philadora is starting to put it together, and produced a terrific closing run at big odds last start at Dubbo. Drawn to get plenty of cover, and leading country hoop gets back aboard. Local 4YO gelding 5. Keighley Sun went under resuming as a short-priced favourite at Armidale, but second-up form is stronger, and top rider is on. Another local, 5YO mare 9. Blinkin Fantastic won that race ahead of Keighley Sun at big odds first-up off a long break, and draws well again, although this is tougher.

How to play it: Star Raider to win and trifecta 4/3,5,9/3,5,9. Odds and Evens: Split (Special)

Star Raider runs second at Muswellbrook on September 16

Race 6 BM 58 HCP (1600m):

Open affair over the mile. Progressive 5YO Newcastle mare 7. Dreamfyre has been freshened coming back in trip after powering home to win this grade and track over 2100m. Will go back from a wide gate, and look to charge home.

Dangers: Newcastle 4YO gelding 2. Myboycolly is very consistent, but always had a doubt on him running out a strong mile under a big weight. Draws the fence, and this does look easier. Local 10-year-old gelding 9. Apache Lad hasn't won for a while, but form in better races has been okay, and he draws to get a nice run on the speed.

How to play it: Dreamfyre to win and quinella 2 and 7. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 7 OPEN HCP (1000m):

Cracking sprint to finish, and a real battle of the resuming brigade. One of those, 6YO local gelding 1. Attila returns for leading stable after charging home for three straight wins, including the BM 85 Cannonball at Coonamble, to cap last prep. Fresh record is good, and 3kg-claiming rider significantly off-sets a big weight.

Dangers: Scone 7YO gelding 2. Professor Marx hasn't started for six months, but also boasts a smart first-up record. Crucially, drawn to plenty of cover under 61kg. Local 5YO gelding 3. Inquiry resumes for strong trainer/rider combination, and while trials weren't flash, he draws to park in a nice forward position. Popular 8YO local gelding 5. De La Hoya hasn't seen the races for seven months, but normally comes to hand quickly and has trialled well. Rival 6YO local gelding 7. The Lion also resumes, without a public trial, but is smart on his day. Was competitive at BM 70 level last prep, although might find a few of these a bit slick first-up; while 5YO Wyong mare 10. Classy Anna resumes off a quiet trial, but has a strong first-up record, and gets in on the limit weight.

How to play it: Attila each way and box exacta 1,2,3. Odds and Evens: Split
