Track rated Good 4 and rail true for Cup day meeting
Race 1 3YO Plate (1000m): |

Small field of 3YOs gets us underway, and looks ripe for home track gelding 2. Little Krakatoa who resumes after finishing his first prep with consecutive wins on heavy tracks. Hasn't publicly trialled, but will be forward enough to dominate.
Dangers: Canberra filly 6. Hayyu closed from a long way back on debut, and can improve further on dry ground carrying 1.5kg less.
How to play it: Little Krakatoa to win and quinella 2 and 6. Odds and Evens: Evens
Race 2 MAIDEN HCP (1460m): |
---|
Very little between the top two in a thin race. Warwick Farm 4YO 1. No Collusion showed good improvement at second start, holding on okay here when well backed, and can peak with a significant gear change.
Dangers: Local filly 3. Annual is deep into her first prep, with dominant country hoop going on, but has a tricky draw.
How to play it: No Collusion to win. Odds and Evens: Split
Race 3 BM 58 HCP (1200m): |
---|
Much more open affair headed by improving Canberra mare 7. Honeysuckle Choice who is ready to win again after four runs this prep. Did her best work late in a similar race at Albury two starts back before right on the heels of a smart one at Gundagai when well fancied in the market.
Dangers: Moruya 5YO 1. Concrete gets his chance to break a long run of outs dropping back from a much tougher BM 84, and drawing the inside gate. Local mare 9. Mimesis has bolted in a trial here since being outclassed behind a form galloper at Canberra.
How to play it: Honeysuckle Choice to win and and box exacta 1,7,9. Odds and Evens: Odds
Race 4 MAIDEN PLATE (900m): |

Now the short course where a good start and early position is crucial. Resuming Rosehill filly 10. Pressita looks a near good thing off two trials, and at the weights, as long as can get over from a wide draw. Trainer has applied the blinkers which is a big plus down the hill here.
Dangers: Canberra 5YO 4. Lucid Dreamer can run the quinella third-up after two rock solid efforts at this trip, although does climb sharply in weight. Include in exotics South Coast 4YO 1. Bouris who has had a lengthy freshen-up after finishing just out of the placings in three consecutive runs.
How to play it: Pressita to win and quinella 4 and 10. Odds and Evens: Evens
Race 5 CLASS 3 (1460m): |
---|
Competitive race for this grade. Warwick Farm 5YO 3. Austreet can strike third-up back in trip, with a far stronger and senior rider booked. Fought on well when ridden closer in a BM 65 at Canberra, and only needs to find some cover from a wide barrier.
Dangers: Albury 4YO 1. Golwen was strong second-up at home in a handy BM 66, although even after a 1.5kg claim is weighted to his best. Kembla mare 7. Swilling got the right run and charged home to win a weaker race here. Again draws well, and drops in weight, but this is significantly tougher.
How to play it: Austreet each way. Odds and Evens: Odds
Race 6 QUEANBEYAN CUP (2000m): |
---|
Feature race of the day, and a smallish field suits Canberra 6YO 4. Eaglehawk who carries his lightest weight in a long time, and can park right behind the speed. Disappointed at Gundagai but was a winner over this distance two runs back, and has never finished worse than second from four starts at this track.
Dangers: Rival 4YO 1. Pecuniary Interest will appreciate getting back on firmer footing after dropping right out in a stronger race at Rosehill on heavy ground. Won two straight in early spring, including the Bathurst Cup, and is most effective when ridden with a sit. Another border-hopper from Canberra, 2. Foxbeat can be hard to catch, but also comes back from that Country Classic at Rosehill, drops in weight, and is drawn to get a charmed run back on the inside.
How to play it: Eaglehawk to win. Odds and Evens: Split
Eaglehawk wins at Canberra on October 23
Race 7 CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1600m): |
---|
Like the fact Goulburn 5YO 1. Azoustic is on the seven day back-up from a strong closing effort fourth-up in a CL1 at Canberra. Blinkers going on from a low draw, and he's the one to beat.
Dangers: Progressive Albury 4YO 3. Power Me Up capped some consistent form powering away to bolt in his maiden third-up at Corowa. Bit tougher here, but has the tactical speed to off-set a wide draw. Improving Canberra 3YO 6. Call Me Artie swept home nicely to land his maiden here fourth-up, and hard fit getting out to the mile is only a plus.
How to play it: Azoustic to win. Odds and Evens: Odds
Azoustic runs fourth at Canberra on November 15
Race 8 THUNDERBOLT HCP (1000m): |
---|
Always a closing highlight the older sprinters locking horns in this race. Classy local mare 1. Kiss My Swiss is a track specialist having never lost here in three starts, and also a proven fresh performer. No public trial is no concern. Will have done plenty of work, and looks well treated at the weights after a 1.5kg claim.
Dangers: Smart home track mare 7. Look Only has been finding the line okay in much deeper races, and draws to get a sweet trail on the inside. Be surprised if anything else wins, but resuming Goulburn 7YO 2. Common Purpose has a smart fresh record; and Canberra mare 6. Eve's Miss has the necessary speed over pet distance.
How to play it: Kiss My Swiss to win and quinella 1 and 7. Odds and Evens: Odds
