Neil Evans' Tips For Goulburn (Friday)

By Neil Evans

Track Good 4 and Rail out 3m so on-pace early before gradual trend away from the fence and off-speed

Race 1 3YO MAIDEN HCP (1300m):

Warwick Farm colt 2. Avion Fury did his best work late first-up in a handy maiden, and will appreciate the bigger track and longer straight.

Dangers: Randwick colt 3. Duke Of Hearts made a solid return in a handy maiden at Newcastle, and also suited by a little more ground with the winkers coming off. Warwick Farm gelding 4. No Harm Done didn't fire through his first prep in winter, but looks well prepared for his return off two forward trials, and form apprentice takes 2 kg off. Watch the market on debutant local gelding 5. Vibrant Knight (Snitzel x Wonderlandbynight by Sky Mesa) who debuts in blinkers off a strong trial win at Canberra.

How to play it: Avion Fury to win and trifecta 2,3/2,3/2,3,4,5. Odds and Evens (First 2): Split

Race 2 CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2120m):

Open and tricky race, with nearly all of them out to this distance for the first time. Like the steady progress and value about 4YO local mare 5. Zarafah who has had four runs back, closing off nicely at Canberra as a well backed favourite. By a former Melbourne Cup winner, and extra trip looks ideal back on home track.

Dangers: Improving 4YO local gelding 3. The Bluesmobile was very well backed last start but couldn't haul in a smart winner in BM 66 grade at Wagga who he had chased home the start before. Up in weight, but back in class, and ready for this longer trip. After putting in a shocker as a hot favourite on debut at Queanbeyan, 3YO Randwick gelding 4. Superhombre defied a big betting drift to cling on and claim his maiden at Newcastle. Draws the fence, but must be a query jumping sharply in distance. Randwick 4YO gelding 1. Prince Camelot has ability, but proved frustrating for punters this prep, twice beaten at the provincials at a short price before failing to run on in a BM 64 at Newcastle. Will find this a bit easier and gets blinkers for the first time, but each way at best back up to 59 kg.

How to play it: Zarafah each way and first four 3,5/1,3,4,5/1,3,4,5. Odds and Evens: Odds.

Race 3 C, G & E MAIDEN PLATE (1200m):

Tough maiden sprint here with a few chances. Well bred 3YO Warwick Farm gelding 10. Riverside's Cash has been off the scene since debuting in smart 2YO company back in late February, but threatens to return a much better galloper having been gelded and blinkers going on. Was edged out in the second of two trials at Kembla, with six lengths back to the third horse, so looks ready to go.

Dangers: Keep a big market watch on stablemate colt 8. Pacific Ocean, by the same Group 1-winning sire Shooting To Win, who won all four trials from late April to late November before flopping on debut at Gosford. Hawkesbury 3YO colt 6. Bizarro was easily over-run at third start in a tougher metro maiden, but on the bigger track and drawn more to the outside is likely to be ridden quieter from off the speed. Expecting good improvement second-up from 4YO Warwick Farm stallion 3. Supra Marnium who was unwanted on debut at Hawkesbury, and while the run was only average, this is easier; while 4YO Nowra gelding 4. Tic Tock Man will improve second-up, and draws the fence.

How to play it: Riverside's Cash to win. Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 4 CLASS 3 HCP (1200m):

Keen on 4YO Warwick Farm gelding 3. Bobby Dazzler who swept home to win a BM 58 at Nowra third-up, and looks very well suited here drawn the inside and down in weight.'

Dangers: If the real 4YO 1. Star Of O'Reilly turns up, he'll be hard to hold out. Was competitive in and around this grade in early spring, including a dominant win at Orange, and looks tuned up for his return with a smart trial win at Kembla. Canberra 4YO gelding 2. Eurosay won two straight at home in moderate company through late winter before resuming with a fast-finishing effort in a Highway at Rosehill. Generally holds second-up form, and long straight is a plus for a one who likes to drift back. Doubt anything else can win, but 6YO Kembla gelding 6. Halliday Road has only won three from 48, but placed a further 20 times. Hasn't been far away in his last couple, and drawn to get a soft run.

How to play it: Bobby Dazzler to win and box trifecta 1,2,3. Odds and Evens: Split.

Bobby Dazzler wins at Nowra on December 8

Race 5 CLASS 1 HCP (1400m):

Another open contest, but like the way 3YO Warwick Farm filly 2. Ready's Girl has returned this prep landing a big betting move to win first-up at Kembla before just missing over this distance at Canberra. Raced in group company as a 2YO, and draws to get cover right behind the speed.

Dangers: Stablemate mare 4. Maibeasy draws the inside, and is on the brink of a second career win after four runs back. Has been well in the market finishing hard in her last couple, and leading metro rider gets back on. Include progressive 4YO local mare 7. Ameares who cruised home to win her maiden fourth-up at the Sapphire Coast. Randwick 3YO filly 1. Money Magic was given plenty of times at the trials before scraping home on debut, and while this is a little tougher over the same trip, sharp rise to 59 kg is a test. Local 5YO mare 6. Denesc should appreciate the longer trip at home after hitting the line hard from well back in her last three. Well weighted after rider's claim, and will be finishing on again. We will get a form reference on 3YO Rosehill gelding 8. Blue Tattoo who finished steadily in a BM 58 behind Bobby Dazzler who runs earlier in the meeting. Won first-up from off the speed at Bathurst, and both blinkers and lugging bit go on for the first time.

How to play it: Ready's Girl to win and first four 2,4/1,2,4,6,7,8/1,2,4,6,7,8/1,2,4,6,7,8. Odds and Evens: Evens.

Race 6 BM 58 HCP (1000m):

In a thin race, very keen on progressive 4YO Moruya mare 5. Velvet Aeroplane who resumes off a nice home trial for strong stable. Drawn well with a 2 kg claim for form apprentice, and normally comes to hand quickly.

Dangers: Nowra 5YO gelding 4. Mad Fox resumes without a public trial, but best form has always been early in the prep, although drawn wide with a big weight. Canberra 9YO gelding 1. Sky Mission mixes his form at will, but won only previous start here, and this is his pet trip, with a 3 kg claim. Orange 5YO gelding 6. Seawatch has been up for a while, but did improve into a Class 2 run at Wellington, and from a cosy draw could be a knock-out hope. Local 4YO mare 10. Luxurial has had two fair runs back from a spell, and drops in weight; while expect sharp improvement at second start from 4YO Warwick Farm gelding 9. At The Helm who dropped out on debut at Nowra after looming on the point of the turn.

How to play it: Velvet Aeroplane to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Velvet Aeroplane's trial at Canberra on November 29

Race 7 FRED COOPER CUP (1600m):

Feature race of the day, with plenty of chances. Canberra 6YO gelding 4. Supreme Polarity is hard fit now, and can control this from a middle gate. Careered away to win a BM 66 at Wagga two runs back before only over-run late in the Ted Ryder Prelude same track and trip.

Dangers: Moruya 7YO gelding 3. Rinviata has ability, and if he runs up to his dominant BM 70 win third-up at Gosford, he'll be in the finish. Don't under-state 4YO Warwick Farm gelding 2. Quality Approach resuming over the mile! Won two straight over further at BM 64 level late last spring, and has been well prepared through two longer trials, and draws to find a nice position. Local 5YO mare 8. Nicconita finally showed her best stepping sharply to the mile at the Sapphire Coast, and while she drops 5 kg from that win, this is a deeper race. Expect a much better run second-up from 5YO Rosehill gelding 7. Hotel Amour back in grade and dropping 3.5 kg from a metro BM 70; while 4YO Kembla gelding 5. Spectre has done little in two runs back, but drops significantly in weight, and won three of his four starts on this track.

How to play it: Supreme Polarity to win and first four 2,3,4/2,3,4,5,7,8/2,3,4,5,7,8/2,3,4,5,7,8. Odds and Evens: Split.

Race 8 F & M MAIDEN PLATE (1200m):

Open one for the maiden girls to finish, with several first starters on show. One of them, 3YO Warwick Farm filly 8. Do Not Disturb (Fastnet Rock x Breakfast in Bed by Hussonet) impressed in a second trial at Kembla when pushed out to chase down a hard ridden leader, breaking 34 secs for her last 600m, but still with something in hand.

Dangers: Goulburn 4YO mare 1. Breaking Cover returns for a second prep off a good trial at Wagga, and on debut at Hawkesbury flashed home to just miss at big odds. Another 3YO Warwick Farm filly on debut 9. Happy Candy (Smart Missile x Walkway by Exceed And Excel) won a trial at Warwick Farm before finishing off okay in a longer trial, so looks well prepared for this trip with the blinkers on. Randwick 3YO filly 13. Sally Sweetness debuted in the Golden Bullet at Queanbeyan before a close-up second at Nowra, and this looks a nice race, despite drawn right off the track.

How to play it: Do Not Disturb each way. Odds and Evens: Split.
