Neil Evans' Tips For Gosford (Tuesday)

By Neil Evans

Track Good 4 and rail out 2m from 1100m - 300m, then True the Remainder, so predominantly on-pace before gradual levelling out

Race 1 MAIDEN PLATE (1600m):

One of the better maiden gallopers going around, 4YO Warwick Farm gelding 3. Deelbraka looks a good thing now, with Frosty Rocks coming out. Gets to an ideal trip fourth-up after hitting the line hard in his last two at Kembla when hard in the market. Incredibly run six second placings in nine starts.

Dangers: Warwick Farm mare 6. Misty Summer - by the same sire - made a fair debut at Kembla despite being unwanted in betting, and should improve up in trip.

How to play it: Deelbraka to win and quinella 3 and 6. Odds and Evens (First 2): Split

Race 2 CL1 HCP (1600m):

Randwick 4YO mare 3. Tinai won her maiden resuming at Goulburn before again finding the line late second-up, and dropping in weight with the winkers on, she's ready to take the next step.

Dangers: Randwick filly 4. Satin Rain (also accepted for Warwick Farm on Wed) also steps up from winning maiden class fourth-up at Goulburn, and will push on into a forward position.

How to play it: Tinai to win. Odds and Evens: Split.

Race 3 3YO MAIDEN PLATE (1100m):

Tantalising early season sprint, with most of the field on debut. One of those, 3YO Randwick gelding 5. Well Known (Deep Field x Disclosure by Fastnet Rock) looked terrific in a dominant heavy track trial win, circling from before the turn before charging down the middle to win easily. May have been flattered in superior ground, but the Deep Field breed are making a big impact and the blinkers are on.

Dangers: Warwick Farm 3YO colt 2. Sir Rocket (Smart Missile x Wolfsburg by Husson) looks ready to fly after two straight trial wins, the latest looked to over-race a little, but still lengthened nicely over the final 200m. Liked the quiet trial in smart company from speed-bred 3YO Rosehill colt 3. Standout (Exceed And Excel x Bahia by Snippets) who went through the line under a nice hold.

How to play it: Well Known to win; quinella 2 and 5; and trifecta 2,5/2,3,5. Odds and Evens: Split.

Race 4 F & M CL2 HCP (1200m):

Another even and open battle, although it's a case of reloading with smart 4YO Newcastle mare 4. Kedah who dented a smart first-up record resuming this track when working home all too late, but that was first run in six months, and looks well placed from the draw with senior metro rider aboard.

Dangers: Rosehill 4YO mare 3. Georgia Hit has taken some nice strides in the past six weeks including a fast-finishing BM 58 win at Goulburn two runs back, and while this is tougher, expect her to be getting home late. Watch the market on resuming 3YO Warwick Farm filly 8. Estrado who progressed as a 2YO in the autumn, and has trialled strong. Wyong 4YO mare 1. Margie Bee put two wins together before finishing okay in stronger metro grade in a race of some depth, and while not well treated at the weights, will get a nice run from the gate. Warwick Farm mare 5. Second Step has gone under as a well backed favourite in her last two, but draws the fence on a track she races well at, with the blinkers going on; while expect a change of tactics on 5YO Wyong mare 6. Venture Capital who worked too hard in front last start, and ridden much quieter from the wide barrier can be more effective late.

How to play it: Kedah to win. Odds and Evens: Split.

Kedah's first-up run at Gosford on July 27

Race 5 4YO & UP METRO & PROV MAIDEN HCP (1100m):

Loved the way well-bred 4YO Warwick Farm gelding debutant 3. Shamusu Sho (Shamus Award x Hiragana by Fusaichi Pegasus) lengthened when pressured down the straight winning a trial with something in hand, and will only get better as the distances rise.

Dangers: Randwick 4YO mare 7. Appian Way is bred to fly, but hasn't started since her only two runs at Sandown in July last year, although looked nice and forward winning a recent trial. Warwick Farm 4YO gelding 1. Canyonero has been placed eight times from 11 starts trying to land that elusive maiden, but the wait could be over. Weighted right to his best, but normally comes to hand quickly and looked good in a recent trial win; while hard not to see Hawkesbury 5YO gelding 2. Pacific Legend being somewhere in the finish first-up from a nice draw after two good trials on the synthetic.

How to play it: Shamusu Sho each way and box exacta 1,3,7. Odds and Evens: Odds.

Race 6 CL1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2100m):

Always a tricky battle of tactics and tempo for modest and evenly graded stayers, but looks the right race for 5YO Warwick Farm mare 6. Nautibernie who defied her long price charging home in a stronger BM 64 at Hawkesbury, and extra ground a plus.

Dangers: Rival 4YO Warwick Farm mare 4. First Lady is also improving over more ground, and comes out of that same Hawkesbury race when finishing nicely, but goes up in weight. Rosehill 6YO gelding 1. Dashing Special has been a little disappointing since winning his maiden at Hawkesbury three runs back, but drawn to get a soft run behind the speed; while improving 4YO Kembla mare 7. Tochi and 4YO Randwick mare 11. Crete are best of the rest.

How to play it: Nautibernie to win and trifecta 4,6/1,4,6,7,11. Odds and Evens: Split.

Nautibernie runs fourth at Hawkesbury on August 1

Race 7 C, G & E CL2 HCP (1200m):

Promising 3YO Wyong gelding 10. Street Scream careered away for an impressive maiden win on debut at home when heavily backed, and draws to control the race again.

Dangers: Warwick Farm 4YO gelding 8. Paulo Pace wasn't far away resuming in a BM 64 when heavily backed before disappointing against stronger in town. Back in the right company here, and draws to get an economical run with the blinkers on. Wyong 5YO gelding, and smart debut winner way back in Sept 2017, 6. Sneaky Fella made a nice long-awaited return beaten under a length this grade and track, and can improve again, although faces a tricky draw. Newcastle 4YO gelding 3. Starismo hasn't been far away in his last two around this grade, and is beautifully drawn to stalk the speed fourth-up. Randwick 3YO gelding 14. Recruiting To Win had to work hard resuming as a hot favourite on the Canberra synthetic to land his maiden, and while will need to find plenty more to beat these, carries a featherweight after rider's 3kg claim.

How to play it: Street Scream to win; quinella 8 and 10; and first four 8,10/3,6,8,10,14. Odds and Evens: Evens.

Race 8 BM 64 HCP (1100m):

Warwick Farm 5YO mare 5. Sebring Express is better suited here after finding consecutive BM 78 races at Rosehill too tough.

Dangers: Looking forward to see how former smart Tasmanian 4YO gelding 2. Maroch goes first-up for in-form Warwick Farm stable. Has trialled strongly, but has to lump a big weight from a wide barrier. The handicapper also hasn't missed 8YO Wyong gelding 1. Ever So Natural resuming, but he has a sound fresh record, and jockey's 3kg claim from a nice draw gets him back into the contest; while progressive 4YO Newcastle gelding 8. Akeed improved to win a Class 3 at Cessnock last start, but also up sharply in weight.

How to play it: Sebring Express to win and quinella 2 and 5. Odds and Evens: Split.
