Meyer Could Be The Ticket At Port Macquarie (Friday)

By Rod Fuller

With an imposing record of two victories and the same number of placings in her short racing career, Meyer looks poised for further success in the Petries Mitre 10 Class 3 Handicap at Port Macquarie on Friday.

Meyer debuted at Quirindi will a solid second behind Alchera before being spelled by trainer, Kris Lees, following a comprehensive victory over Sweet Kiara at Coffs Harbour last September.

The Written Tycoon filly resumed with a placing at the Beaumont track before accounting for Rubble by over a length at Tamworth a fortnight ago when a heavily supported favourite.

Despite a distinct rise in class for the assignment, Meyer looks well placed to be extremely competitive and it is significant that stable rider, Andrew Gibbons, has been engaged for the mount.

This would indicate the daughter of Embark will be racing at Port despite being entered for weekend events at Kembla Grange and Muswellbrook.

The main danger centres around the Grant Prosser trained, Music Box Dancer, following victories at Kempsey and Taree before finishing down the track in the recent district Country Championship Qualifier in February.

Meyer wins at Tamworth on March 8

The Uncle Mo filly didn’t seem comfortable on the heavy Taree ground in the race won by Magnalane with the stable hoping the clearing weather conditions predicted for Friday’s assignment will improve the current track surface.

Tracey Bartley has entered Triple Choice for the event with the son of Choisir racing well enough in similar company to be a definite threat while Lucky for Some is progressing through the grades well and provides John Sprague with a good chance.

There will be plenty of interest around the chances of Midden in the opening event with the Wandjina filly debuting for Wayne Wilkes following a recent Port barrier trial placing.

Despite being beaten a fair way behind the well credentialled Typhoon Bonny, the youngster could provide the start of a great day for Andrew Gibbons with the monitoring of betting transactions providing further confidence.

With Magnalane set to represent the Mid North Coast in the $500,000 Newhaven Park Country Championship Final at Randwick on 4th April, the Jenny Graham stable looks set for further success with their mare I’m Fluent in the Maiden Plate.

The daughter of I Am Invincible has been placed on five occasions in a relatively short career and indicated a win wasn’t far away following a solid second at Grafton behind Nullaborn.

The clash of Luff and Schemer in race six should provide plenty of interest while keen form students believe Nashian is the anchor bet in the final race after looking the winner before finishing second behind Teo Torriate at her last track appearance.

With the Coronavirus restrictions, the meeting is set to proceed with trainers, strappers, jockeys, officials, track staff and essential personnel the only persons admitted, which will prevent Club members, owners and members of the public from attending.

No on-course wagering facilities will be available and essential personnel will be required to leave the racecourse after their horses have run.

Under these extraordinary conditions, the club is indebted for the support provided on Master Builders Race Day by valued sponsors NIS Power and Communications, Rob Tate Duplex Investments, SMP Fabrication, Kennards Hire, Sovereign Hills Display Village, BDM Constructions, Petries Mitre 10 and Fastplast in the staging of the program.

The Port Macquarie Race Club would like to thank all racing participants and supporters for their understanding in this most difficult time as the club continues to conduct meetings under the guidelines and protocols defined.

The race meeting will be comprehensively covered on the Sky Racing platforms so everyone will be able to follow all the action.
