Queanbeyan galloper Noble Boy has been favourite for the Country Championships since markets opened and he justified that with a dominant win.
Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the $500,000 Newhaven Park Country Championshipsl Final (1400m) at Royal Randwick.
Hugh Bowman (Noble Boy): “If I had something more to chase he could have given more. He’s a very casual individual, he really enjoyed the conditions here today. He has class this horse. I know it’s a Grand Final for the country horses, it’s not the Doncaster, not the Queen Elizabeth or Cox Plate but it holds a special place in my heart being from country NSW.
“So thrilled for Todd (Blowes). The tyres were a bit flat when he missed in the qualifying heat at Goulburn then came through with flying colours at Muswellbrook and he thoroughly deserved it.
“I had a lap full of horse. There was more traffic to the outside than inside. Conditions are testing and runs will appear. I know I’ve been ridiculed in the past. I was confident.”

Blaike McDougall (Bennelong Dancer): “Ran super, she was always going to be a bit funny on this track.”
Andrew Gibbons (Lucciola Belle): “Ran out of her skin, Hughie was just going to good for me, but she stuck on well, she’s as tough as they come. Great effort.”
Mitchell Bell (Unbiased): “Gallant effort, he was trapped deep and didn’t really handle that surface.”
Adam Hyeronimus (Westlink): “I thought he went great, coming to the turn I thought he was going to be right into it, but once he came off the bridle, he just wasn’t able to find on that track.”
Craig Williams (Bocelli): “Unfortunately we didn’t get to see him at his best today as he didn’t handle the soft conditions.”
Sam Clipperton (Safe Landing): “He’s come to the end out of it, didn’t feel right.”
Josh Parr (Noel's Gift): “Never in the hunt.”
Tim Clark (Texas Storm): “A bit disappointing, he’s been up a long time, may need a break.”
Andrew Banks (Sons Of Bourke): “Just didn’t handle the going.”
Ben Looker (Queen Of Kingston): “She ran really well, she didn’t disappoint.”
Jason Collett (La Scopa): “Struggled in the ground.”
