Apprentice jockey Lachlan Scorse was involved in a race fall when four riders were dislodged at around the 500m at Taree on Sunday, 29th October 2023.
[Update at 3:30pm on Tuesday 28th November]: Lachlan continues to make positive progress in his recovery and is expected to be moved from the John Hunter brain injury unit to the transitional living unit this week. Lachlan returned home last weekend for the first time since his fall and will continue to be permitted visits home on weekends during his ongoing rehabilitation period.
The Scorse family has asked to acknowledge the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service who attended to Lachlan after his fall on 29th October 29.
Newcastle Jockey Club will be hosting the Hobson Engineering Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service Raceday this Saturday (2nd December) in which the Scorse family hopes that fundraising efforts will be greatly supported by racegoers and industry personnel on the day with proceeds going towards Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
[Update at 9:50am on Monday 20th November]: Lachlan has been moved out of the high dependency ward and is now starting to walk on his own and is improving every day. Lachlan is now just awaiting on a bed to be transferred to a rehabilitation hospital.
[Update at 3pm on Tuesday 7th November]: Lachlan is still in the high dependency ward but he’s making gradual progress. Lachlan is a little more awake, he’s talking and is now eating.
