Tips and race by race preview by Jack Webster for Friday's Bathurst meeting. Selections based on a soft track.
Race 1 - 1:35PM THANK YOU KARLA MCDIARMID COUNTRY BOOSTED MDN HCP (1200M) |

2. Feimazuo started strong in her initial runs, but recent form has dipped. Excuses for first-up effort at Orange, and she can bounce back here.
Dangers: 7. Polens is overdue for a win but has been consistent this campaign. Proven on these conditions and can be competitive. 8. Sashabella returns from a long break, but both career placings have come on wet ground. Drawn well and could feature.
How to play it: Feimazuo WIN ($1.95 TAB Fixed Odds)
Race 2 - 2:10PM NEXT MEETING 10TH FEBRUARY MAIDEN PLATE (1400 METRES) |

3. Benamera has been knocking on the door this campaign, consistently threatening to break his maiden. He was impressive at Orange last start, setting the tempo and running well, only to be caught late with a gap to the rest of the field. Gets another chance and should give another competitive performance.
Dangers: 11. Kaffir Lily showed promise in her initial campaign, placing on debut before a solid effort finishing just behind the placings prior to her spell. Two trials in preparation for return and can make an impact first up. 10. Hinune ran well first up at Dubbo, finishing third and beating the rest convincingly. Tough draw to overcome, but race fit with a quick two-week turnaround and can improve. 8. Luna Flirt the longer trip didn’t seem to suit in most recent showing, but she drops back in distance here at a track where she has performed well previously.
How to play it: Banamera WIN ($1.75 TAB Fixed Odds)
Race 3 - 2:50PM BECOME A MEMBER TODAY BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1400 METRES) |

5. I’m Scarlett ran home well at Cowra last start, surging late but just missing out. She’s been competitive in prior runs and returns to a distance where she has a strong record on suitable conditions. Fitter for recent racing and looks primed to give another bold showing.
Danger: 2. Time Ruler put in a strong effort to win last start at Tamworth, leading early and fending off challengers off the turn. He’s won two of his last three when fourth up and should be at peak fitness with the quick one-week turnaround. 1. Magnace resumes and is more than capable over this distance, especially on conditions that suit. The 4kg apprentice claim adds to his case. 9. Vaquero has been in good form, finishing runner-up last start at Orange behind a dominant winner. Gets another chance to break through.
How to play it: I'm Scarlett WIN ($4.40 TAB Fixed Odds)
Race 4 - 3:25PM MOORHEAD CRANES CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1300 METRES) |

2. Light Infantry has been knocking on the door, finishing runner-up in his last two outings at Orange. He’s been consistent and always in the mix with a win and three placings from six starts. Gets another chance with a similar task to his last two here.
Dangers: 3. Hard To Impress has been consistent throughout his career and started this campaign well before an excusable run last start at Dubbo, where he was caught in an awkward spot off the turn. Won his only start at this track prior and can bounce back. 1. Artifactx comes off a strong win at Kembla Grange and now drops back to country level. Sure to be competitive again and a genuine chance to go back-to-back. 4. Prorata is next best and can figure in the finish.
How to play it: Light Infantry WIN ($4.40 TAB Fixed Odds)
Race 5 - 4:05PM NIGEL FRISBY PAINTING & DECORATING MAIDEN PLATE (1100 METRES) |
---|
9. Indie Mae gave a fair effort at Kensington on debut but failed to take off when needed. Returns to the country level and better for that run second up. Looks one of the major players in this field.
Dangers: 12. Varazza is tricky to assess off a small-field debut but has trialed well leading into this and hails from the Bjorn Baker stable. One to watch first up. 1. Call Me Mighty didn’t fire when racing in Hong Kong but has trialed well ahead of his Australian debut. Capable of showing more here. 3. Whisky George has been inconsistent but has gone close when at his best. Not out of this and among the better chances.
How to play it: Indie Mae WIN ($4.00 TAB Fixed Odds)
Race 6 - 4:40PM DONNELLY CONSTRUCTION GROUP BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (1100M) |
---|
8. Plaza was impressive last start at Moruya, surging late to secure a strong victory. She’s been consistent with two wins and three placings from seven starts and has a proven record on soft tracks. Hard to overlook and well-placed to go back-to-back.
Dangers: 7. Magnucat showed plenty of promise in his debut campaign, winning both starts at country level. Struggled to fire in his next prep but returns first up here, dropping back to country grade, and looks a genuine contender. 15. Sratified was an impressive last-start winner at Gilgandra, putting the field away convincingly. Well drawn with a 1.5kg claim engaged and can build off that performance. 10. Power Bank has a strong record at this track and distance and is worth consideration in this field.
How to play it: Plaza WIN ($3.90 TAB Fixed Odds)
Race 7 - 5:20PM BATHURST PLUMBING&GAS FITTING CNTRY BOOSTED BM58 HCP (1200M) |

1. Foxwell returns from a long spell, having last raced in July last year. He had a strong record before the break, and with a favorable draw and a 2kg claim engaged, he’s well-positioned to pick up where he left off. Capable of a bold showing first up.
Dangers: 9. Chico Casino thrives at his home track and has shown consistency here in the past. Solid placing last start at Orange, and with natural improvement second up, he should give a good account of himself. 8. Railway Avenue comes off a strong last-start win at Cowra and is well suited to this distance. Should be right in the mix again. 6. East Harlem rarely runs a bad race at this track and is expected to put in another competitive effort.
How to play it: Foxwell WIN ($8.00 TAB Fixed Odds)
