Well-Bred Galloper The Pick Of Lees Yard At Tamworth (Monday)

Kris Lees, amidst another prolific regional season, again has several prospects educating for better grade and sure to be hard to beat at Tamworth’s Monday TAB meeting.

Typically, Lees has compelling form and numbers throughout the eight-race TAB meeting after juggling his prospects there and with dual acceptors at the Port Macquarie TAB meeting on Tuesday.

“We were monitoring track conditions and the most suitable races and we’ve got some nice chances all day at Tamworth,” offered Lees's racing manager, Lucas Miller.

In particular, well-bred Berruti ($4 favourite on TAB), a four-year-old Medaglia d‘Oro gelding contesting the Thrifty Car Rental Class 3, 1400m.

“He’s related to Group winners, the family includes Shooting to Win and other top liners,” Miller enthused. “A nice horse in the making; a Newcastle win and placing last prep is the right form for this grade, he’s fitter and he’ll improve.”

Confessed ($4.80) is also ideally placed in the Corey’s Catering Class 1, 1200m off an impressive Scone maiden win last preparation: “A promising filly we think can go through the grades, she’s had the two nice trials to bring to the races, she’ll sprint well fresh.”

Three-time winner Ja Ja Chaboogie ($2.80) follows up in the Cool Blue Ice BM 66, 1600m off a strong recent Port Macquarie Class 2 win, 1500m in soft going. In addition, she’s back a level after solid provincial form at Muswellbrook and Scone early this prep.

“The key to her is some give in the ground, that’s why we’ve gone to Tamworth with her - she’s a really consistent and genuine mare, she’ll run a race again.”

An interesting combination is Scone trainer Mary Moses and dual race winner Ficsmm Dave ($8) who is in Berruti’s race. Mary and Fred Moses operate the traditional Kanangra Stud at Scone.

The family patriarch is Reg Moses, a part-owner of the mighty Star Kingdom. The Moses family originated Arrowfield Stud and Reg also raced the great Time and Tide and Fine and Dandy with Harry Plant.

Meanwhile, Tamworth on Monday is assessed as a Soft 5 with the rail out 3m from the winning post to the 1400m; out 3m from the 1000m-275m, and out 1m the remainder.
