Wagga Winners - Tips For Sunday 11th August

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Sunday’s Wagga meeting. Selections based on a soft track.

Race 1 - 12:35PM NOEL COMERFORD'S AUTO PARTS & ACCESSORIES MAIDEN (1200M)

5. Daze Off makes her debut on the back of one public trial and it was a smart one as she flattwened out to win easily at Corowa. Strong trainer-jockey combination and can only have upside from the trial. Sure to be competitive.

Dangers: 3. Read My Lips has had a few chances but possibly not suited on the synthetic at Ballarat and previous form was pretty honest. Placed twice at Albnury in June and has some claims. 10. Majestic Deel is another first starter and he was well held together in running fourth in his Corowa trial recently. Drawn one and in good yard so keep safe. 11. Miss Fennell also debuts having trialled at the same session and she worked home okay beaten a couple of lengths.

How to play it: Daze Off WIN ($2.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 2 - 1:15PM ANTHONY WISELY CONSTRUCTIONS MAIDEN HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

1. Dressel is shaping up well for the step up in distance and he found the line quite well on the Canberra synthetic second-up. Could land a bit closer from the better gate up in trip and should be in the finish somewhere.

Dangers: 4. Newyork Missile was sent out favourite and didn’t settle and dropped out to be well beaten at Albury last time. Previous form suggested a win isn’t far away and he could easily bounce back. 7. Reward In Time is a 15 start maiden but has a string of placings against his name. Fitter for a gallant second at Gundagai earlier in the week and can give a sight. 8. Cab Pierro battled on fairly at Sapphire Coast two weeks ago but gets in better at the weights here and draws the inside. Each-way claims.

How to play it: Dressel WIN ($4.20 TAB Fixed Odds).

Dressel runs third at Canberra on July 26

Race 3 - 1:55PM JUNEE PRIME LAMB RIVERINA CUP (2500 METRES)

5. Dubai Showgirl had support at odds and ran right up to it with an all the way win at Kembla over 2400m two weeks back. No distance doubts, small field suits and she’ll likely roll to the lead again. Hard to run down.

Dangers: 2. Semper Fortis revelled in the heavy ground to win over 2000m here a few weeks back, finishing strongly. Unbeaten at this track but untried this trip. Has to be respected. 1. Knights Armour started favourite in the same race and tried hard when finishing second. Only slightly better off at the weights and stays under notice. 6. Slipstreaming won over 2000m at Queanbeyan a month ago then back 200m and just fair at Bathurst. Might be looking for more ground and is in the mix.

How to play it: Dubai Showgirl WIN ($4.80 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 4 - 2:35PM COMMINS HENDRIKS SOLICITORS WAGGA WHIZ BM82 (1000 METRES)

8. Spinosaurus looks to have a good set up to roll forward, potentially get some control, and be hard to run down. Down 3kg on his second at Kembla Grange two weeks ago, handles all conditions and is quite honest.

Dangers: 7. Mojo Music bounced back to form with an all the way win over 1175m at Albury on a heavy 10 to break a run of outs. Probably follows across onto the speed and has the opportunity to be in the finish. 4. Lang Park has been freshened up since failing in a much stronger event at Warwick Farm a month ago. Third in a good form race at Moruya before and should be hard to hold out. 1. Fangela rarely runs a bad race and is down in class on a closing third on the synthetic over 1206m. Can’t be overlooked..

How to play it: Spinosaurus WIN ($5.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Spinosaurus runs second at Kembla Grange on July 27

Race 5 - 3:15PM CONGRATS DANNY BEASLEY CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1600 METRES)

5. Prince Of Arendell has won one from 15 but sets up a bit better here back in trip off a freshen since a fair effort at Hawkesbury over 2000m. First run for new stable here. Wyong effort three back would have him hard to beat.

Dangers: 12. Mystic Diva made a promising return at Sapphire Coast two weeks ago running into third over 1400m. One of the main chances. 11. Mitchellstown was a drifter in betting on debut at Geelong and held her ground okay in fourth. Open to improvement. 1. Avonview can improve on a below par effort at Sapphire Coast where he was right in the market. Firmer track would be a plus too.

How to play it: Prince Of Arendell WIN ($3.90 TAB Fixed Odds).

Prince Of Arendell runs second at Wyong on June 6

Race 6 - 3:55PM DIAGEO AUSTRALIA BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

3. Clever Art is a handy mare who returned with a solid placing at Albury on a heavy track two weeks ago. Will relish an improved surface and gets in well with the claim for a sharp class drop. Should be hard to beat.

Dangers: 4. Super Sunny Seeya dropped to the 1000m and scored a popular win at Albury at the same meeting. Has had six goes at this trip for one placing so has to be a query on that front but must be considered. 9. Sweet Paree posted back-to-back wins before a disappointing fifth on a heavy track at Albury when equal favourite. Entitled to another chance. 8. Miss Stalwart resumed since March and she’s capable of running a cheeky race fresh from a soft gate.

How to play it: Clever Art WIN ($3.80 TAB Fixed Odds).

Clever Art runs third at Albury on July 29

Race 7 - 4:35PM REECE GROUP WAGGA WAGGA CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

4. Make It Sweet showed a lot of promise in her first preparation culminating in a strong maiden win at Bendigo. Resumes at a suitable trip with a solid trial win under her belt and she’ll have her chance to take the next step.

Dangers: 7. Yam is tracking well third-up to be a major player after an improved second at Albury on heavy ground. She can roll forward here and give a good account. 11. Southern Dancer proved far too strong in notching a maiden win at Albury at her second race start. Has the tricky gate to contend with but has the upside. 10. Notleanormean hasn’t raced since resuming with a solid second over 1200m here back in mid-June. Has trialled and drawn the inside so stays under notice.

How to play it: Make It Sweet WIN ($3.20 TAB Fixed Odds).

Make It Sweet wins a Corowa trial on July 31
