Racing NSW has been informed of the passing of owner Mr Jeff Perry of Dubbo, aged 102.
Mr Perry regularly attended the races mainly in the country and one of his best horses, Danish Lace, has only just been retired. The mare won nine races with 14 placings from her 35 starts with earnings of more than $155,000.
“I would often see Jeff at the races with five or six mates having a beer and enjoying the day,” said well-known racecaller, Col Hodges OAM.
Mr Perry was a long-time owner with trainer Peter Nestor who had known him for decades.
“Jeff had horses way back with my mother so I’ve pretty much known him since I was a little kid,” Mr Nestor said.
“We actually tried to buy Danish Lace as a yearling but missed out. I asked the fellow who had her one day how is she going and he said they’d broken her in but they were looking to sell her. So, we snapped her up.
“Jeff also raced Rosario with me and she won races at Wellington and Dubbo. He was going to turn 103 on May 31.”
