After a runner-up 'two' at the last Goulburn meeting, local filly Princess Spice will be out to convert that result to a 'one' when she steps out on her home track on Friday.
The Tash Burleigh-trained daughter of Sooboog was brave in a front-running display on her home track less than two weeks ago in a snappy little class three.
Her trainer believes the run had obvious merit: "She did a little bit wrong last start, to only be pipped on the post," Burleigh said.
Princess Spice ($2.80 favourite on TAB) lines up in Race 6, the Brad Writer Constructions B66 Handicap over 1000m, with Burleigh more than happy to roll the dice on a 10-day back up.
"She came through the run at Goulburn really well and having another run on home turf will suit her well."
Princess Spice lumps a bit more weight in Friday's contest but she has proven herself a stout framed filly to date.
She has gathered up a consistent little short course resume in nine career starts, her results belying the behind the scenes work needed away from raceday.
"She can be quiet a quirky horse to deal with and subsequently did a little bit wrong last start," Burleigh offered.
"Hopefully, with a little less time between runs she will go out there on Friday with a bit more of a level head and get the bob this time!"
Burleigh also has another of 'her girls' engaged on Friday with Smarter Than You ($11) looking to engineer a bounce back result in Race 3, the Goulburn Produce Class 2 Hcp over 1500m.
The filly finished down the track in a sodden edition of a Highway Handicap last time out after back-to-back wins going into the race. Burleigh likes the idea of giving her a home track opportunity over more ground.
"Smarter Than You is well, it's a bit of a step up in distance which is my main qualm. But racing here was too hard to pass up, especially with one last throw at the BOBS bonus stumps!"
Shaun Guymer returns to the saddle after three weeks off and will ride both of Burleigh's charges on Friday.
Burleigh has 17 horses on the books at present and along with Friday's runners, definitely has one eye on the spring.
Stable stalwart and dual Goulburn Cup winner Al Mah Haha is in the mix for the inaugural edition of "The Big Dance" in early November and returns to stable routine this week.
"'Al' has had a short let-up and returns to the stable today on his journey to the Big Dance. He may not get a start in it, but we will prep him and see what happens."
Goulburn has eight competitive betting races scheduled for Friday with the opener kicking off at 12.15pm.
The tablelands track is currently rated a Heavy 9 and the rail returns to the TRUE position.
