Emerging talent from the Kris Lees camp are headed for better grade and likely have too much upside for regional rivals at Friday’s TAB Port Macquarie meeting transferred from Coffs Harbour.
Typically the prolific regional premiership trainer has short-priced favourites gaining further education throughout the eight-race Port program combining with long-time stable rider Aaron Bullock.
The duo opens in The Princelawn Plate (1512m) with Snapoutofit, the $2.80 second favourite on TAB, following the strength of a dominant debut win of a Taree maiden three weeks ago after two trials, and $2.40 stablemate and favourite Akauwheo.
“They’ll both run, nice progressive types and not that much between them I would have thought,” Lees assessed.
“Snapoutofit is a Contributer (Ire) mare, will be strong again at the 1500m.”
Significantly Akauwheo second-up, won a stronger Scone maiden last prep.
Better Judgement, a Press Statement filly, is a $3.10 second favourite, again for Bullock in the Toormina Hotel Cup, 1008m.
“I would have liked to have seen a bit more in two average trials but she has nice ability, and probably raced in harder grade last prep.”
Better Judgement was placed at Canterbury Park on debut then started “evens” dominating a Taree maiden.
Boomsita ($1.75 fav) is in The Seabreeze Hotel Maiden, 1008m with Bullock, another Lees runner who has contested far better grade but is a backmarker drawn out.
The Spirit of Boom filly placed first-up at Eagle Farm and then was strong when placed fourth twice at Doomben.
“Drawn out no favours but she’s going well enough off a winning trial and in the right race with any luck.”
At present 'Port' remains a Soft 6 and is holding up particularly well from Tuesday’s meeting.
