THE GOOD OIL FOR GOULBURN (TUESDAY)
Race 1 - TAB.COM.AU CLASS 2 HANDICAP (900M)
Bridyn May and Bay Of Modena should offer a genuine tempo over a slap and dash trip to open the card but expecting the Clare Cunningham trained Chang Mai Express (5) to be hardest to beat. Showed promise at his first campaign with top two results in both starts. Finished runner up in a slickly run trial recently and from gate three holds a strong hand Bridyn May (1) – has been placed in both runs at this trip but is a slight query on anything genuinely wet. Showed sharp improvement second up and back to home surrounds is a definite threat. Bay Of Modena (4)- on pacer with lucrative results at this track previously. Has a consistent overall record and has placed in soft ground. Penza sticking a solid pointer. Patrika Belle – both wins to date have come first up and gets back down in the weights here.
Race 2 - DOYLES ON THE BEACH CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1200M)
Look for Elegant Ellen to set the speed with Monsieur Macron using a good draw to also race handy. With Purpose (5)- disappointed first up after coming off a promising debut campaign. Has trialled solidly since and scored his maiden win at this track last prep. Elegant Ellen (6)- made an immediate impact at first campaign but has been off the scene since December. Proven in wet ground. Dizzy Miss Lizzy (9)- blew away a maiden field at Nowra last week. Backs up quickly here and sheds two kilos. Pay to follow on an upward spiral. Laughing Or Crying (3)- stretched out to a mile last campaign but no official trials for return to racing. Has acted fresh previously and must respect the Heywood / Williams combination on offer.
Race 3 - GOULBURN MARKETPLACE BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1200M)
Any real tempo looks questionable on paper leaving dual acceptor Dizzy Miss Lizzy (8)- to press forward as she did last start. Finished it off like a promising horse at Nowra and with four kilos less here is expected to handle the rise in grade. MAID IN MILAN (4) – progressing sharply in just two starts. Placed behind a subsequent city winner on debut and then well placed to break through in country grade last time. Tiger By The Tale - holding form nicely this campaign after a strong win at Moruya in latest outing. Back up in weight worrying territory but on home patch has genuine claims. TE ATA (5) –resumes for the capable Dale yard and has been placed in both first-up runs previously. No public trials but must be kept safe.
Race 4 - JCF CONTRACTING CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1600M)
Skaldak looks a leader option with Battle Fury set to also race handy from a good draw. Or Else (11) – has been hard to miss running on strongly at his first two starts over shorter trips. Produced by the in-form Kurt Goldman yard and should be suited at the mile. Miss Moana (12) – has been placed in two of three outings to date. Tried hard first time at the mile in a small provincial field last start and looks to have more to offer yet. Etheridge (10) - did what few do by winning on debut in the winter then held her margin first up at Wyong. Cosily drawn and out to a mile now finds a trip she's bred to lap up. Battle Fury (1) – has been well placed by the stable this time in and scored a deserved maiden win in country grade at latest start. Up in class but going great guns now.
Race 5 - SPRING MERINO STAYERS BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (2800M)
A real test of tough legs here but expect early interest from Plea Bargain, Grey Eminence and Southern Gamble. Everly Girl (3) is as dour as day old bread but always tries hard. Placed in four of her last five including three at provincial level. Rock hard fit and will run this right out. Irenic (5)- has copped plenty of recent racing but has won two of his past three. Tough staying type who is proven on wet ground. Grey Eminence (4) – only saluted once in seven starts but two provincial efforts since resuming have been genuine enough. Will need early luck but has each way claims in an open race. PLEA BARGAIN (10) – still a maiden but racing gamely of late.
Race 6 - HEAT OF THE RISING STAR BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1400M)
Not expecting a hectic speed up front but look to True Worth for early intent with Burrangong a chance to race closer from his best draw in sometime. XAARFOXYLADY (8) – Was minor placed behind the in-form Cosmologist first up at Hawkesbury and has done little wrong in eight starts to date. Finds a suitable target second up. Cop a Nip (3) - has been close up at his last three outings in similar company. Excels at the trip and proven in all conditions. Attainment (1) - rarely lets the side down and won at this track and distance three starts back. Outgunned in tougher races of late but drawn sweetly and gets back to a more suitable grade here. ARRONDISSEMENT (2) – looked luckless last start and drops back in grade. Loves this track and trip.
Race 7 - SPRING CARNIVAL @ GLBN BOOK NOW MAIDEN HANDICAP (1400M)
On pace antics expected here from Chrissy's Dream and possibly Rufio from a better draw. Provocative Man (8)- has found career best form at his last two starts and chased home a subsequent Warwick Farm runner-up in Farranfore last start at Kembla Grange. LADY ELEANOR (6) - returned in sharp form at Moruya first up. Faces a tricky draw but placed in all four runs at this track and is overdue to win one. King's Peak (3) – showed he is learning his trade quickly with a runner-up effort at Kembla Grange second up when running on. Only has to overcome a tricky draw to figure. MERLINITE (10) - should find this easier than debut in city grade. Given two trials for this and respect any betting push over the stablemate
Race 8 - JEWELL BUILDERS MAIDEN PLATE (1200M)
A host of on pace action expected in the closer thanks to Art Of More, Lamplight Lili and D’Oro Rain. READ ALL ABOUT IT (4) - has delivered two excellent runs from a spell with more of a run-on style being adopted this campaign. Up in trip but showing plenty of promise. ART OF MORE (1) - continues to race well but keeps finding one or two better. On pace style keeps him in it for a long way despite a cruel draw. BRUSSELS (5) – Made a good fist of his debut outing when runner-up at Canberra. Drawn to get every chance in a harder event. D’ORO RAIN (14) – Minor placed on debut at Bathurst but this is tougher. Further improvement expected.
