Tamworth Winners - Tips For Sunday 22nd August

By Brad Gray

Tips and race by race preview by Brad Gray for Tamworth.

Race 1 - 1:20PM CARLTON DRY CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2100 METRES)

10. Winter Thorn loomed as the winner first up at Scone over the mile but his run ended 50m from home. Strips fitter second up out to a staying trip and strikes a very winnable race. The Irish-bred import should put these away.

Dangers: 4. Intense Passion got a firm track last start and she improved sharply. Her one previous run over this trip was inconclusive. Looks the likely leader and on another good track, expect her to give cheek.

How to play it: Winter Thorn WIN ($2.15 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: EVENS

Race 2 - 2:00PM CALLCOTT REFRIGERATION & AIR CONDITIONING MAIDEN PLATE (1000 METRES)

7. Tuscan Valley looked very sharp when winning a Scone trial heat by a space. She bounced out of the gates, travelled and then quickened. She couldn’t have done much more. Her heat time was a couple of lengths faster than her obvious danger 8. Alenia .

Dangers: Fellow debutant Alenia did it just as comfortably, however. That’s twice she has impressed at the trials now. The barrier is a touch awkward. 5. Obey looks the best of the rest after smoking home on debut having bungled the start.

How to play it: Tuscan Valley WIN ($3.90 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: SPLIT

Race 3 - 2:36PM TAB.COM.AU MAIDEN HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

1. Hemsworth had every possible had Tamworth but found the 1200m a touch too sharp with his odd on stablemate taking out the race. With just one start to his name, he is the horse in the field with untold upside. The rest have had plenty of chances.

Dangers: 4. Swiss Scent lines up for crack number eight at a maiden but she’s close. Was nabbed on the line at Scone last start over 1400m after leading the field up. Expect similar positive tactics in this.

How to play it: Hemsworth WIN ($2.20 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: SPLIT

Race 4 - 3:11PM KOSCIUSZKO TICKETS ON SALE NOW MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

9. Kegstar was trapped deep throughout last start over this track and trip. There’s less depth to this maiden and we’ll get a line on the Hemsworth form line from earlier in the meeting. Would want each way odds in a very open race.

Dangers: 12. Star Shilling kept closing on debut at Dubbo. Out slightly in trip looks in her favour. Promote 15. Exolay to top pick if she happens to make the field. Nothing went right for her at Scone on debut.

How to play it: Kegstar EACH WAY ($8 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: EVENS

Race 5 - 3:46PM BAXTER BOOTS AND SHOES CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

1. Sole Heir ran an encouraging fourth at her first outing for Cody Morgan. Expect her to settle much closer in the run second up out to 1400m. This is already her third trainer at just start 13 but she has never lacked for talent going right back to her two-year-old season.

Dangers: 2. Battle Gaurdian will be run of his feet early but look form him late. A win wouldn’t shock fresh over 1400m. 4. Flying Scotsman broke through at start 10 a fortnight ago and is well placed to go back-to-back now.

How to play it: Sole Heir WIN ($2.50 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: SPLIT

Race 6 - 4:21PM HYGAIN CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

5. Warrah Flash will get back in the run but no horse here can match his last 600m sprint if everything falls into place for him. He didn’t handle the heavy track first up at Newcastle before rocketing home over this track and trip last start. He beat Art Cadeau last preparation.

Dangers: 11. I’m A Cracker had just missed in both runs back. Jumps from 1000m to 1200m which is some query but should get a lovely run in transit to negate that somewhat. 8. Tawfiq Lass next best.

How to play it: Warrah Flash WIN ($11 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: ODDS

Race 7 - 4:56PM CARPET ONE TAMWORTH BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

12. Foxstorm is back for his second racing preparation and if his two trials are any guide, he looks set to race through the grades. Showed enough in his five previous runs, which included a solid maiden win, but confident there’s so much more to come.

Dangers: 2. Brave Enough will be thundering home at the finish. There’s a lot of speed on paper here which suits but the wide draw dictates that the powerful gelding will be out the back. The 1000m is on the short side but his trials have been strong.

How to play it: Foxstorm WIN ($4.80 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: EVENS
