Tamworth Should Hit The Right Note Next Thursday

By Geoff Newling

Tamworth Jockey Club’s Country Music Cup meeting will be entertaining - that’s for sure.

Entry into next Thursday’s January 25 eight-race TAB meeting is free with a number of country music stars in town for the Country Music Festival socialising with the crowd, reported Tamworth Jockey Club’s sponsorship and marketing co-ordinator, Amie Simpson.

After the final race and barrier trials one of the up and coming country music bands – The Shanon Watkins Band – will also play on the front lawn (in front of the heritage-listed grandstand), she said.

“It’s going to be a big day,” Amie Simpson said. “It’s a Racing NSW Country Showcase race meeting and the gates open at 11am and we do have a free bus service courtesy of Tamworth Bus Lines running from 10.30am to 8.30pm. The track is in great order too (Good 3) and we will have a number of country music stars out here mingling with the racegoers.”

Feature race is the $30,000 Concrete Industry Supplies Country Music Cup Benchmark 70 Handicap (1200m) while there is also a $40,000 Country Showcase Maiden Plate (1200m) on a card where the TJC disperses $250,000 in prizemoney. Nominations for the meeting close at 11am Friday.
