Tablelands Wet But Punters Can Still Get Set

A genuinely wet winter has found its way into recent results just about everywhere including Goulburn. Despite the recent rain though the tablelands track offers up another handy eight-race card on Friday with fit, winter style horses expected to be hard in the markets on a track currently rated a Heavy 9.

The rail is well out so it could be a tread carefully scenario early for punters but there still looks to be plenty of value amongst the ninety-three original acceptors.

Local trainers are sparingly represented but still offer competitive chances throughout the day via gallopers such as Miss Japan (Stephen O'Halloran - Race 1; $3.30 on TAB), My Blue Jeans (Danny Williams- Race 4; $3.50 favourite), Earp (Kurt Goldman - Race 3; $5) and Salute To The Sun (Emma & Lucy Longmire - Race 5; $23). Here's a quick race by race overview for punters keen to get set at Goulburn on Friday.

Race 1 - DAVID ALT ELECTRICAL MAIDEN HANDICAP, 1500m: First use of the track could be a plus for Miss Japan ($3.30) who finds her easiest assignment to date and battled on well first-up in the wet. Balletopia ($2.50 fav) is back in class and can improve in a make all role whilst Liberty Fields ($4.60) stuck on well in heavy conditions here last start. Fit enough to figure.

Race 2 - THE KOSCIUSKO MAIDEN HANDICAP, 1000m: Hypnosis ($2.20 fav) has been trialling sharply and looks up for the real rumble of race day on debut. Celestial Doll ($9.50) has held her own in two recent trials and Mustang Suzy ($2.80) is worth another chance despite failing as favourite on debut.

Race 3 - MARKEY SADDLERY CLASS 1 HANDICAP, 1400m: Not hard to find Easy Campese ($2.20 fav) who is on the fast track to success this time in. Latest runner-up result in tougher makes her hardest to beat. Belitsa ($3.20) is proven in the sloshy stuff and placed at her past two. Nicely placed despite the extra lead. Earp ($5) ran on well in a similar race and conditions in latest offering.

Race 4 - STIRRUPS BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP, 1400m: My Blue Jeans ($3.50 fav) continues to hold his form and handles all conditions. Fits perfectly on home track. Ladies’ Gem ($4.60) the improver after spotting them too big a start last time out over shorter. Maddie’s The Boss ($6) is a proven mudlark sailing along sweetly in country grade of late.

Race 5 - GALAHAD'S QUEST HORSE OF THE YEAR MAIDEN PLATE, 1300m: Rathvally Miss ($1.55 fav) likes it wet and stuck to the task well first-up in city grade. Nicely placed for an overdue champagne cork. Fattore Stella ($10) has been thereabouts all prep and adds value for those playing the exotics. Deep Value ($7) looks open to more improvement yet and should be peaking now after three runs in.

Race 6 - SHAUN GUYMER JOCKEY OF THE YEAR BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP, 1200m: Love Tap ($1.65 fav) comes knocking after a super impressive debut win at Nowra. Kept fresh since and looks up to these despite the testing conditions first up. The consistent Pahang ($7) gives Shaun Guymer an each-way chance of winning his premiership named race. El Nieto ($5) needs luck from a wide gate but is a proven weight carrier.

Race 7 - JOSEPH PRIDE TRAINER OF THE YEAR CLASS 2 HANDICAP, 1200m: Looks the right race for the Matthew Smith-trained Temple Run ($3.70). Consistent customer with wet track form who was brave in provincial grade last start. Six furlongs sits sweet with Jacquine Reward ($2.70 fav) who was a wet track winner last start. Cops a 3kg knock into this but form lines look strong. Miss Twilight ($6.50) is a promising mare suited at this trip first-up.

Race 8 - JEAN VAN OVERMEIRE APPRENTICE JOCKEY OF THE YEAR B58 HANDICAP, 1600m: Bizou ($6) looks ready for a first-time crack at the mile, deep into a consistent prep. Top three prospects once again. Reoffender ($3.60) is holding his form well and just needs early luck from a muddy marble. Saint Ambrose ($3.40 fav) is weighted right up to his best but third up at a mile can’t ignore.

Goulburn hosts the first race to go in NSW on Friday with the starter cutting them loose at 12.20pm. TAB Fixed Odds markets are now available for Goulburn with the track currently rated a Heavy 9.
