Hometown training heavyweight Cody Morgan has the overwhelming numbers and form, combining with rising Sydney-bound apprentice Jasper Franklin, to play Santa Claus for punters at Tamworth’s Christmas Eve Saturday TAB meeting.
Amidst booming seasons, they link throughout a capacity eight-race Tamworth program where Jasper, on the verge of outriding his country allowance with Brett Dodson, will then be indentured to Mark Newnham at Royal Randwick.
Grafton’s Jasper, 19, in his second season, claims 1.5kg on multiple mounts for Morgan, is riding at an impressive 16% winning strike rate, 68 career wins and coming off a double at Taree on Sunday.
So short odds a big day for Jasper.
And none with better credentials than Cody’s Broken Hill, a Lonhro protégé (our of Mining Tycoon) resuming to contest the Over the Line Racing Class 3, 1000m with topweight of 61.5kg less Jasper’s claim.
“Without having a chance to go through the form thoroughly just yet, really looking forward to the day with a full book - Cody is always hard to beat at home,” Jasper offered.
“And an exciting opportunity to ride in Sydney. The jockeys I’ve always looked up to are James McDonald and Tommy Berry.”
Broken Hill has proven fresh form and the incentive back to the regionals is successive Canterbury Park placings in May, incidentally, ridden by Berry.
And no stronger push than Brokens Hill’s under two length runner-up to talented city Saturday grade sprinter Jo Jo Was a Man.
Broken Hill also contested the Listed Gosford Guineas, that's stand out form on the program.
Also, Cody’s dual winner Macleay appeals in the fifth event at 1400m, primed by successive home track trials.
The highly consistent five-year-old gelding was an impressive winner over 1600m at Moree in May and has won first-up. Tamworth will race on a Good 4 track with some chance of showers.
