There will be no shortage of racing at Wagga on Wednesday with 10 races highlighted by the running of the Estella Rise Kurrajong Cup Bm74 Handicap (1300m).
The feature race was to have been held at Wagga last Saturday, but when the track was deemed unsuitable for racing after recent heavy rain by Racing NSW Stewards it was added to the new meeting.
Up and coming galloper Super Helpful ($2.70 favourite on TAB) has the right recent form on his side to make his presence felt after a first-up victory at Canberra was followed by a second in the $110,000 The Panorama at Bathurst.
Trainers Barbara Joseph and her sons Paul and Matt Jones had Manderboss listed to start in the Kurrajong Cup on Saturday, but due to the washout instead ran the horse at Newcastle where he was placed.
Super Helpful, who will be ridden by stable jockey Quayde Krogh, carried 3.5kg less weight at Bathurst when he produced one of his best runs in the feature race.
It’s an evenly graded field on Wednesday with the scratching of one of the main chances Island Bay Boy leaving the topweight The Doctor’s Son with 2.5kg more weight to carry than his nearest rival.
The Doctor’s Son ran fourth in The Panorama - not far behind Super Helpful - and he looks well placed despite the big weight of 63kg.
Trainer Nick Olive has Invincible Dash ($9.50) and Temoin Chaud ($12) resuming and he expects both to be competitive despite some interruptions in their training.
“Everyone has been in the same boat with some missed work or starts due to the wet tracks so we will start them off because they are ready to race again,” he said.
Olive has a few starters at Wagga including Miss Manzanilla ($) who will be having her first run since winning her last two appearances in August of last year. The mare trialled at Goulburn on October 11 and will kick off in the Benchmark 58 (1000m).
“I gave her a good break because she was a bit sore behind and she has come back great,” he said. “She isn’t fully wound up yet as you would expect after a long time off but I’m happy with what she has done.”
Olive is at Warwick Farm today with Gundagai Snake Gully Cup winner Ready To Humble ($26) who is qualified for the $2 million The Big Dance at Randwick on November 1.
Meanwhile, premier trainer Mitch Beer is chasing three straight wins with My Bold Boy ($4 fav) in the final race, the Harrisons Joinery Bm58 Handicap (1000m), with stable apprentice Jett Stanley aboard.
The other interesting runner is Pachino ($2.70 fav who won his trial by 10 lengths and his debut by almost half as far as he looks to make it two from two in the Class 1 & Maiden (1600m).
Wangaratta trainer Andrew Dale has accepted with a record 19 runners at the meeting which will be run on a Heavy 10 surface.
