Racing NSW Stewards have today questioned Port Macquarie trainer Jenny Graham regarding VICTOREM, which is accepted for in the MNCRA Championships Qualifier (race 7, no.5) at Port Macquarie this Sunday 18th February.
Mrs Graham advised Stewards the gelding was scratched from its engagement at the Gosford race meeting on 18 January 2018, after a routine blood sample taken prior to the race showed an elevated white cell count.
Mrs Graham advised the stable subsequently found a laceration in the horse’s mouth, which was treated with antibiotics. Mrs Graham further advised Victorem was scratched from its engagement at the Port Macquarie race meeting on 2 February 2018, after a further blood test found the gelding was showing a low red blood cell count.
Mrs Graham added a further blood test taken prior to Victorem trialling at Taree on 12 February showed the gelding’s blood profile had returned to normal parameters, and she was satisfied with the gelding’s trial at Taree on 12 February 2018 and it’s recovery.
Racing NSW Stewards will order a veterinary examination of the gelding after it arrives on course this Sunday.
