The racing will be fast and slick at Bathurst this weekend – and we’re not talking motor cars.
The Panorama, one of the key lead-up races to next month’s $2 million The Kosciuszko at Royal Randwick, will be staged on Sunday by Bathurst Thoroughbred Racing.
Named after Bathurst’s legendary Mount Panorama, the event is ideally placed just under three weeks out from The Kosciuszko on Saturday 14 October.
In just four runnings, the Panorama Hotel The Panorama (1300m) has become one of the Central Districts’ premier events for sprinters.
In addition to the $110,000 prizemoney, a BOBS Silver Bonus is also available up to $19,250 making The Panorama an enticing route to The Kosciuszko.
Also, next Sunday the race club hosts the $50,000 Elders Emms Mooney Daffodil Cottage Bathurst Showcase Cup (1800m), one of the qualifying Country Cups for the $3m The Big Dance at Royal Randwick on Tuesday 7 November.
And another feature of The Panorama meeting is the ‘King Billy Aspros Ride of the Day’.
BTR’s president, Bernard Ryan explained: “Last year Bill Aspros and Tim Gilbert judged the best ride at the meeting and this year there will be another VIP along with Billy judging what they deem as ‘ride of the day’.
“Markey Saddlery have been amazing supporters of our ‘Legends Day’ since its inception in 2012 and we look forward to their support again from the team that includes Ray, Brendan, Greig and Raelene.
“There will also be a Fashions on the Field, tasty food vans, on-course TAB facilities and a full bar and live music.
“The club is in a rebuild phase with substantial infrastructure upgrades. The Panorama’s increased profile is putting BTR into a new era with demolition already started of on-course stabling and the DA stage has been reached for remodelling of the racecourse.
“It’s an exciting 12 months ahead and we are looking forward to another great afternoon on Sunday.
“With the revised conditions this should be our strongest ever running of The Panorama and along with Big Dance eligibility for first and second home in the Bathurst Cup, it’s going to be a fantastic meeting.
“Much needed funds for Daffodil Cottage were raised last year and that’s a key focus again.
“We’ve got an exciting year ahead at BTR and Tyers Park and The Panorama/Bathurst Cup Day will be just the beginning!”
Meanwhile, the Grenfell Cup meeting will be held on Saturday with a six-race program including the Cup and the Henry Lawson ‘Loaded Dog’ Handicap.
Other attraction includes a Fashions on the Field, on-course punters’ club, Grenfell Town & District Band, Lions Jumping Castle for the youngsters, a canteen and bar, and bookmaker and TAB facilities.
