With a recent victory under her belt and an appreciation for the good track conditions prevailing, So You Suggest is poised to dominate discussions in the Veech Plumbing Handicap on Tradies Day at Port Macquarie on Friday.
The lightly raced daughter of So You Think settled in the second half of the field at her Taree appearance three weeks ago before producing a barnstorming finishing burst to account for
Golden Dubai and Vandelight by a half-length margin.
Todd Howlett [pictured left] puts the polish on the highly promising mare who broke maiden status with a narrow win over I’m Madeline at Dubbo a year ago and derived great benefit from a lengthy break and two recent Scone barrier trials before the successful resumption to racing.
It is significant that Ash Morgan has been engaged for the assignment with the premiership-winning hoop enjoying a wonderful run of success culminating in victory in The Sunlight on the Sunshine Coast and Group 1 glory in The Galaxy at Rosehill aboard the Nathan Doyle-trained rising star, Private Harry.
It should be noted that So You Suggest is also nominated for the race program to be conducted at Scone next Monday, but the appointment of Morgan tends to indicate that a start at the local circuit is firming as a distinct proposition.
Egotistic resumed from a lengthy spell with a solid third in a busy finish at Grafton a fortnight ago and is poised to provide the stiffest competition with the Sally Taylor-trained chestnut mare possessing a great record over the sprint trip while Cool Fizz was rewarded for consistency with a strong Taree win.
Matt Dunn makes the journey from his Murwillumbah training establishment and has strong hopes peppered around North Coast venues over the next week with interest in the chances of Yendy in the Port event.
The daughter of Magnus was a recent arrival from the Ciaron Maher stable and has impressed with two barrier trials at Eagle Farm and the Gold Coast in preparation for Friday’s clash with So You Suggest, Egotistic and other rivals.
Yendy’s previous form includes wins at Nowra, Goulburn and Hawkesbury and it might be wise to assess whether the Dunn stable elects to make the journey to Port or reserves the mare for the Grafton race meeting on Sunday.
The day could commence well for Todd Howlett with the prominent Muswellbrook mentor setting Moroccan Thunder for the BNCC Security Handicap with the Tassort gelding deserving to break his maiden status following a recent second at Tamworth last week.
Hey Daisy comes to Port with a strong barrier trial win at Beaudesert last month and is set to provide the testing material in Maca’s Mechanical Repairs Maiden Handicap when facing the starter for the first time.
The daughter of Written By seems to have above average ability despite a break between racetrack trial appearances and the filly’s start sees the return of Paul Shailer to his previous home base. The appointment of promising young apprentice, Jett Newman, provides a strong indication that a forward showing is expected from Hey Daisy.
Despite Sumo Fish finishing out of a place in the Evergreen Turf Country Championships Final at Randwick last Saturday, Wayne Wilkes has strong hopes later in the day with King Larry and Razella contesting the final two races.
Both have strong credentials with King Larry deserving success following recent placings at Tamworth, Taree and Walcha while Razella broke her maiden status at Taree two months ago.
Port Macquarie Tradies Raceday is set to provide an outstanding program of racing action with all tradies admitted free and details regarding general admission tickets together with reserved seating in the Ivan Livermore Stand are available by contacting the Port Macquarie Race Club office on 02 6581 1964 or email on admin@portmacquarieraceclub.com.au
The club is greatly appreciative of the sponsorship provided by great local organisation including BNCC Security Services, Maca’s Mechanical Repairs, John Oxley Motors, Carlton and United Breweries, Veech Plumbing, Macquarie Signs and Greg Keft Electrical with all encouraged to support these great operations.
All are reminded that the festival of holiday racing action continues at the complex with the Port Macquarie Breakers Rugby League Raceday on Easter Saturday while Interline is a local guttering and spouting business and hold their annual meeting on Sunday 27th April.
