There will be no end of support for Lynda Bundy and her racehorse Karuta King at Moruya on Friday as she starts to get back to her regular routine following the death of her husband Ron.
Karuta King will start at big odds in the Pretty View Retreat Class 1 (1210m), but he will be the favourite with many hoping he runs the race of his life.
It was only a couple of weeks ago that Ron, a former well-known jockey who rode hundreds of winners, died suddenly.
Rightfully, Lynda scratched her horses from the Moruya meeting that day, but she was never going to be absent for too long.
“I was back with the horses working them the day after Ron passed. It’s been hard, but we are getting by and moving on with life,” she said.
Lynda only trains a small team of horses at Moruya with her stables named after Be Swift – a dual Randwick winner whom her husband rode to victory for her first win at Moruya in 1992.
Be Swift won eight races and Linda hopes her stable’s main hope Funky Little Shack can go on to better things.
“I just train a few like The Boomerang who has been good, but Funky Little Shack has been the best of late,” she said.
“Karuta King has had several starts for me and hasn’t won a race for me, but his only win was on a very heavy track. I just want to see him race well.”
Karuta King is raced by Linda’s grandson Tyler Bundy whose partner is Moruya based apprentice jockey Jade McKenzie.
Lynda said the support she has received has been overwhelming.
“I have had a lot of support and it’s a realy community down here with all of the trainers. Ron’s funeral and wake was held at the track and the club, and in particular Ken Brown (secretary), did a lot,” she said.
Ron Bundy rode the first race winner at the current Moruya track and also worked for the club at times.
Appropriately, Lynda’s other acceptor on Friday is the aptly named Never Lose Faith but it may not gain a start as the fourth emergency.
Meanwhile, one of the feature races on Friday is the Bodalla Town Plate (1020m) where Zazel, a winner of her two starts this campaign, is the favourite at $5 on the NSW TAB.
Zazel has produced two booming finishes to win at Canberra and Moruya and faces another stiff test.
Lord Remy has been tested in Highway company and won two of his past four starts.
He is resuming from a break, while Felix Peron has never raced better with three victories from his past six appearances.
The capable Missile Leader is first-up from a break with the top weight of 60 kilograms, while Russian Assassin and Heart Of Vancouver are close to wins.
The other main race is the Tuross Cup (1435m) where Reet Petite is first-up from a break and is the $4.80 favourite.
