Scone Winners - Tips For Friday 2nd August

By Jack Webster

Tips and race by race preview by Jack Webster for Friday’s Scone meeting. Selections based on a soft track.

Race 1 - 12:15PM PHOENIX CAFE MAIDEN HANDICAP (900 METRES)

9. Rare Moon didn’t have much luck last start at Newcastle, unable to find a lane at a crucial stage in the race and finishing unplaced. She has run home well in all three of her starts and given a more positive race setup here, she can strike.

Dangers: 3. All Too Vegas has shown great promise since her debut. Her last start at Dubbo can be excused due to the rainy conditions, which didn’t suit her. She prefers to lead, and with a good barrier draw and drop in distance here, similar tactics will likely be adopted. 1. Stratified raced well last start at Kembla Grange in a strong race, leading throughout but fading in the closing stages. Third up here, and a drop in distance from 1200m to 900m works in her favor. 5. Ritzsun is on debut here at her home track, coming off an impressive run in her last trial. She has drawn a good barrier and is one to watch.

How to play it: Rare Moon WIN ($5.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 2 - 12:50PM SCONE RSL COUNTRY BOOSTED CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

6. Ballinderry Sal is on her home track and looking to make it a hat-trick after winning her last two starts here since returning from her spell. She made a strong late-race push last start on a heavy track and has had success from wide barriers in the past. A logical choice here.

Dangers: 1. Tapa Kick hasn’t done much wrong, with two wins and five placings in her seven starts. She returns from a spell here on her home track, and, having won first up in the past, she should be among the finishers. 3. Wanda River won last time out at Tamworth under similar track conditions and showed consistent performance throughout his previous campaign. With a favourable barrier draw, he should be a strong contender. 5. Awaygoesthebunny resumes here and is looking to return to his previous form prior to his spell. He’s suitably placed in class and should be competitive.

How to play it: Ballinderry Sal WIN ($4.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 3 - 1:25PM THE GABLE INN BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (2200 METRES)

6. Image Of The Sun was beaten here at home last start at short odds. She made good ground in a race where she didn’t get the run she needed and will have a chance to redeem herself here. She should improve.

Dangers : 4. Balmierro had a commanding performance last start, just missing out in a race where he and the winner easily beat the rest of the field. A step up in distance should work in his favor. 3. Bill Peyto handled himself well last start at Gunnedah, finishing strongly. He is fitter for the one-week turnaround and will benefit from a senior jockey's ride this time. 2. Nature Boy won last start at Grafton with a solid win. Retains the jockey and should be kept in the mix.

How to play it: Image Of The Sun WIN ($3.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 4 - 2:00PM COOLMORE COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN PLATE (1100 METRES)

12. Vercelli was beaten as an odds-on favourite at Muswellbrook last start but seemed to struggle on the Heavy 9 track. She should be kept in the mix, as any improvement in the track conditions should work in her favour.

Dangers: 14. Kantishna was narrowly beaten last start at Tamworth, fading in the closing stages of the race. Freshened for six weeks prior to this run, she should benefit from a quicker turnaround and a better barrier draw this time. 13. Ivy Diva had a solid debut at Gunnedah, doing her best work later in the race. She tried hard to finish a close second and should improve going into this race. 1. He Is The Kiss has earned eight placings in his last eleven starts. He’s been seeking a victory for quite some time and could strike here.

How to play it: Vercelli WIN ($4.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Vercelli runs fourth at Muswellbrook on July 11

Race 5 - 2:35PM ARROWFIELD CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1600 METRES)

7. It’s A Knockout debuted on the Kensington track where she led throughout in a solid victory over 1400m. Extra ground looks a plus and not beyond her reach. Similar tactics will more than likely be applied here and looks to improve going into this race.

Dangers: 13. Red Rag To Bulls has run second in all her three starts to date. She’s charged home late in each start and looks to find her first win here today. Has an each way chance at least. 6. Bright Legend persisted with her run last start at Tamworth over this distance, joining in with every chance in the race. It’s her home track debut and she is open to improvement. 8. Lady Devine is third up here and did well to finish fourth with a solid run from the back of the field. She is in the mix.

How to play it: It’s A Knockout WIN ($1.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

It’s A Knockout wins at Kensington on July 17

Race 6 - 3:10PM SCONE RSL SUPER MAIDEN PLATE (1300 METRES)

6. Tayla The Sailor has shown great improvement since returning from her spell. With two solid finishes at Dubbo and Gunnedah she’s done enough to be considered a threat this time up. Fitter for the one-week turnaround and should go close.

Dangers: 7. Hell Of A Lad put up an even effort on debut here and looks to improve going into this race. 1. Ju Two is on debut at his home track, coming off the back of two impressive trials. He looked promising in his second-place finish in the last trial and seems ready to be a contender in this race. 4. Jawharat Dubai comes into this race with seven placings in her last eight starts. She can’t be left out of the mix.

How to play it: Tayla The Sailor WIN ($14.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Tayla the Sailor runs second at Gunnedah on July 22

Race 7 - 3:50PM SCONE SPORTIES BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

8. Harbour Gold put in an impressive effort last start at Gunnedah, running three wide and hitting the line well for a close second. He’s drawn a good barrier here, and over a distance in which he has seen success in the past, expect him to go close in this race.

Dangers: 2. Haiku Star presents third up after two sound efforts, securing a win and a second at his home track since returning from his spell. Both races were over this distance, and he will look to build on those performances going into this one. 1. Willingale is third up here, coming off a race last start where she closed in well in the final stages but just fell short. She has every chance here. 7. Crimson Bonnet is resuming and has performed well when first up previously. The inside barrier could play into his favour, and he could show up here

How to play it: Harbor Gold WIN ($4.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Harbor Gold runs second at Gunnedah on July 22

Race 8 - 4:30PM YARRAMAN PARK BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

4. Brok Cafe is suited in this class first up at her home base. She has shown promise in her previous trials and is sure to be a major player in this race, having achieved a win and a second when resuming in the past.

Dangers: 3. Sky Artist showed promise with some impressive form prior to her spell. She’s seen success in the past at this track and prefers the conditions. Should be ready to fire first up. 2. Seething Seb had a disappointing campaign prior to his spell, but a positive trial at Taree indicates he’s ready to go and could improve this time around. 6. Penitent had every chance last start at Wyong but still performed above market expectations. He has drawn a good barrier here and will look to maintain his form going into this race

How to play it: Brok Cafe WIN ($4.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Sing Brok Cafe runs fourth at Scone trials on July 17
