Sapphire Coast Winners - Tips For Sunday 29th December

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Sunday’s Sapphire Coast meeting. Selections based on a good track.

Race 1 - 1:55PM TATHRA BEACH HOUSE APARTMENTS BM58 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

1. Camerlengo is probably best suited of the major chances here as a specialist 1000m horse and this is easier than his last start third at Orange when up in class. Same weight after the claim and sure to take some running down.

Dangers: 3. Spirits Burn Deep might find the trip sharp on good ground but she did win fresh at the trip last prep on a heavy track. Narrowly beaten in a Highway back in August so is good enough if she can stay in tough. 2. Peruno hasn’t raced since being beaten favourite at Moruya back on October 4 where he led and boxed on fairly. Has to be considered. 8. Rained Out won a BM50 at Moruya back on November 5, has been placed a couple of times at this track and could fill a placing.

How to play it: Camerlengo WIN ($2.90 TAB Fixed Odds).

Camerlengo runs third at Orange on December 16

Race 2 - 2:30PM TATHRA LITTLE BOTTLER MAIDEN PLATE (1000 METRES)

7. Bubble Tea resumes without a public trial and bears close watching as she was sound in her two placings prior to having no luck at all at Cootamundra back on October 6. Hard to say where she would have finished but definitely not last and was only beaten three lengths. Can run well.

Dangers: 5. Your Magic has only trialled once and it was a sound enough gallop, while beaten five lengths he wasn’t pressured in the run home. Any support would be significant. 3. Beer Baron struck a strong maiden at Nowra last time but at the same time he didn’t finish the race off as you’d like to see. Fitter for this and on his best he’d be hard to beat given his debut second at Randwick a year ago. 9. Winnie Fortune is a likely improver on what was a promising enough debut at this track earlier this month. Rallied nicely late and hit the line well so well worth including.

How to play it: Bubble Tea WIN ($5.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Bubble Tea runs third at Moruya in September

Race 3 - 3:05PM TATHRA BEACH COUNTRY CLUB MAIDEN HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

1. Balmoral had the outside of a big field to deal with first-up over the 900m scamper at Albury and did a great job to get as close as he did in fourth beaten a length. He did start favourite there. Sure to get more favours this time in a smaller field, up in trip and from a nice gate. Can atone.

Dangers: 8. Yes Isla Yes is the logical danger, she ran fourth at her only start to Snow In May at Wagga back in May. Nice trial winner leading in and was scratched from Kembla on Saturday for this. Hard to beat. 7. Ikona is a stablemate of Yes Isla Yes and bears close watching on debut after one trial at Kembla just over a week ago. Drawn the inside and could show up. 5. Zouwase from the Joseph Jones stable is also on debut and wasn’t asked for much when placed in a Queanbeyan trial. Keep an eye on betting.

How to play it: Balmoral WIN ($2.20 TAB Fixed Odds).

Balmoral runs fourth at Albury on December 14

Race 4 - 3:40PM ELDERS REAL ESTATE TATHRA MAIDEN PLATE (1400 METRES)

7. Network Error hasn’t been far away in all four starts and it was a strange run herer last time where she sat outside the leader, looked to be gone then rallied to be strong late again in third. Fitter and perhaps the extra ground is in her favour. Go well.

Dangers: 4. California Role is on debut for the Bateup stable and certainly wasn’t tested in his trial at Kembla recently. While drawn out the trip fresh looks ideal and he could show something. 1. Footstepsonthemoon didn’t fire on debut at Kembla in a much stronger race and went back to the trials for an easy win last week at Moruya. No surprise to see him improve. 6. Shaddap stepped out for the first time at Canberra a couple of weeks ago and boxed on okay in fourth. Drifter in betting there so may have some upside going into this.

How to play it: Network Error WIN ($3.90 TAB Fixed Odds).

Network Error runs third at Sapphire Coast on December 2

Race 5 - 4:20PM THINK PINK PLUMBING CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

3. Rocco Lini looked good winning on debut at this track a few weeks ago, sitting off them and bursting through to score running away. Form out of the race so far is solid and he can only be better for it. Will need a bit of luck from the gate but hard to beat.

Dangers: 2. That A Boy gave nothing else a chance leading all the way first-up at Queanbeyan about six weeks ago. Could well take some running down again. 4. Dodge The Dark was fourth behind Rocco Lini before scoring an easy all the way win at Queanbeyan just over a week ago. Has a show again. 1. Battle Fleet may need a wet track but can show a bit more here than last time out when midfield at Albury.

How to play it: Rocco Lini WIN ($2.20 TAB Fixed Odds).

Rocco Lini wins at Sapphire Coast on December 2

Race 6 - 4:55PM TATHRA BOWLO TATHRA CUP BM58 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

4. Mystic Diva is an honest mare who was strong as usual at the finish when narrowly beaten over this track and distance first-up from a nine week break. Stays at the mile but fitter and drawn nicely. Her record is a bit of a worry but she’ll be somewhere in the finish.

Dangers: 3. Beauer brings provincial form into this with a first-up Newcastle placing then an even effort for fourth at Kembla Grange up the mile. Getting close to another win and sure to be competitive. 2. Fudge just held off Mystic Diva two starts back then favourite and led them up before fading up to Class 2 company at Moruya. Entitled to another chance. 7. Crazy Atom comes through that Moruya event where she stayed on to run third. If she can repeat that sort of effort she’s right in this.

How to play it: Mystic Diva WIN ($4.60 TAB Fixed Odds).

Mystic Diva runs second at Sapphire Coast on December 2

Race 7 - 5:30PM LINRAY FINANCE & LEASING BM58 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

8. Sebastian’s Flyer hasn’t done a lot wrong of late in similar company and while back sharply in distance he’s one to keep an eye on. Won over 1425m back in September and while this is short of his best he should be finishing strongly.

Dangers: 3. Missile Maiden hasn’t raced since the winter where she was honest, winning at Albury in May and placing in three subsequent runs. Capable of running well fresh. 2. Rangatira drops in weight after the claim following an even third at Nowra a couple of weeks ago. Rarely too far away and is one of the chances. 9. Sassen will need some luck from the barrier but is back in class after a fair effort at Nowra, when in the market, and does have a great record at this track. Has a show.

How to play it: Sebastian’s Flyer EACH-WAY ($8.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Sebastian’s Flyer runs third at Queanbeyan on November 12
