Talented comeback apprentice Anna Roper, with a change of indentures, is building momentum and mileage with a strong book at Scone’s TAB meeting on Tuesday after riding at Mudgee on Sunday and Coffs Harbour on Monday.
After a nine-month injury enforced absence after riding a spectacular 56 winners in a debut 2022 season, Anna now apprenticed to Damien Lane and close to home at Wyong, is determined to make up for all the time out and lost opportunities.
“It was so frustrating and tough inactive that long, I had to have a knee reconstruction after a race fall that compounded an old injury from playing soccer, so I’m working hard and travelling for opportunities,” Anna explained from Tamworth where she stayed overnight from the Mudgee meeting.
Anna’s prime rides at Scone are Cody Morgan’s Broken Hill ($4.40 favourite on TAB) who is attempting four successive wins, Bandolero ($7) for the Vigouroux stable and Fine Vintage ($11) a last start winner for Luke Pepper and stablemate Press the Pedal ($16).
Pepper the trainer of The Kosciuszko favourite Opal Ridge rates Anna highly and they have combined for numerous winners.
“I rode Fine Vintage and Press the Pedal to win 800m trials at Muswellbrook a few weeks back, both went really well, nice speed," Anna said.
"Luke would have set them for home track races. Barrier 12 is the issue for Press the Pedal, but he did show speed in the trial.”
Press the Pedal contests the Yarraman Park Mdn (1200m) and Fine Vintage the Pryde’s Easifeed Class 1, 1100m.
“I don’t know much about Broken Hill, but I’ve been told he’s a really nice type, three in a row tells you that, drawn out in a strong form race but won twice first-up and coming off a trial win.”
The former Team Hawkes Lonhro gelding is an early career Canterbury Park winner, contesting the strong Vinery Park Gundy Cup Sprint Series, 1100m.
A capacity eight race program is on a Soft 5 track in fine weather.
