In-form apprentice Jean Van Overmeire has regained the Rising Star Series lead and looks set to become the 2017/18 title holder after winning heat 25 at Bathurst on Sunday.

Van Overmeire came from well on Ricci Royal ($5.50) to score narrowly from Qin Young (Salesman, $5) with Alena Skerritt a close third on Oskastar ($3.80).

The victory has pushed Jean to a seven-point lead in the series, boasting 40 total points.

The rider now only needs to secure a runner in the Series Final at Hawkesbury on June 21 to secure another minimum of one point, which will ensure victory.

Mikayla Weir maintains second spot in the Series with 33 points ahead of Patrick Scorse (30). Olivia Pickering and Rachel King are equal fourth with 29 points.
