Potentially A ‘Bright Day’ For Louise At Goulburn (Tuesday)

Hard working hoop Louise Day heads to Goulburn on Tuesday looking to marry up her own recent good form with that of a few gallopers just about ready to break through.

Irish born Day has bagged three winners in just over a week with the latest being a stylish 'poise and pounce' effort on The Carpet Bagger (Joseph Ible) at Moruya on Friday in the Batemans Bay Cup.

She quickly puts a well-earned rest day (Monday) behind her with three trial rides at Rosehill Tuesday morning before turning her attention to the Southern tablelands meeting in the afternoon where she has three hopes as part of Goulburn’s eight race card.

Two of Day's rides at Goulburn are over 'a mile', a phrase Day has grown accustomed to of late as she's trekked between meetings at Moruya, Newcastle, Goulburn, Nowra and Dubbo in between the odd city engagement.

Louise says it's part of the job and something she doesn’t mind doing …especially when the results are coming.

"You've got to put in the miles to get the opportunities with a lot of competition for rides right now," Day says.

"There was a week recently that added up to over 20 plus hours in the car alone, but thankfully there's music, podcasts or just jumping on the phone to friends to get through that side of it."

Day has the good vibes going at Goulburn too. At the club’s most recent meeting (22/9) she secured a win and a runner up result from four rides.

She backs up on one of those on Tuesday, Wild Calm ($6.00 TAB) for the Annabel Neasham camp in Race 7, the Atkinson Equine Centre Aqua Walker 1600m Maiden Hcp.

The galloper produced a career best showing as runner up last time out at the same venue, the hoop pleased to retain the ride at a slightly longer trip third up.

"She looks a horse who has more improvement to come. It's a competitive race but hopefully we can ride her similar with a bit of luck from a tricky draw."

Day also partners another “hoof on the till’ type in Stasera for Gabrielle Ellis in Race 5, the Aaaron Grant Electrical B58 1600m Hcp. The consistent mare has come up a treat this campaign and went down by the barest of margins in a ripping finish at Nowra last start.

"She's going really well. Got to the front pretty early last start with a bit of pressure on her but handled it to almost win."

The horse tackles a mile fourth up and Day says the timing looks right with her.

“She's tough and going well enough to go close again."

The Ellis stable is ticking over nicely of late, something that Day has been playing a part in.

"I've been on a few for Gabby recently. Only a boutique size stable but the horses get a lot of one on one attention and the riding instructions are spot on."

Day’s third ride at Goulburn is Irradiance ($26) for Stephen O’Halloran in Race 6, the Goulburn Mulwaree Council Maiden Plate. Day agrees Tuesday’s race is big drop in class and his recent trials have been competitive.

"She's a lovely big filly but still an unknown quantity at this stage."

With the clocks going forward over the weekend we are seeing more 'day light' at this time of year and that can only be a good thing for the hard-working Day as she keeps up the miles doing her dream job!

Goulburn's track is currently rated a Soft 5 for Tuesday's meeting with a warm day forecast.
