Poetic Power Set To Fire At Port On Saturday

By Rod Fuller

With strong recent performances under her belt, Poetic Power is poised for victory in the Constable Print Handicap on Peak Coffee Easter Cup Day at Port Macquarie on Saturday.

The daughter of Poet’s Voice has been a model of consistency with a decisive win over Victory Chuckle at Kempsey a month ago indicating the extra distance of the weekend assignment should suit.

Her last performance resulted in a fighting second behind The Enzo at the local circuit when Jon Grisedale had no alternative but to scout forward on the mare due to the pattern of racing before being beaten just under a length.

Jon Grisedale - has three fancied mounts at Port Macquarie on Saturday

Donna Grisedale puts the polish on the mare and the popular Coffs Harbour mentor is enjoying a wonderful period of success with three wins from 10 starters in the area over the past month.

With any luck, keen form students believe Poetic Power will be the hardest to beat in the middle-distance event with Lady of Fortune and Tosen Dreamer shaping as the obvious dangers.

Terry Evans returns to the north coast after representing the district with Sir Ravanelli in the $500,000 Newhaven Park Country Championships Final at Royal Randwick last Saturday and has a great chance in the event with Lady of Fortune.

The grey mare was far from disgraced at her recent effort when beaten around a length by Twigman at Port a fortnight ago and seems to appreciate the step up in distance while Tosen Dreamer is racing well and will be suited by the apprentice claim allocated to Ben Osmond.

The Peak Coffee Easter Cup is a wide-open race featuring an absorbing battle between Oblivion, Miss Tapestry and De Lovely Lad with chances also around the last start winner Mrs Ed, despite a class rise.

Oblivion completed a successful day for John Sprague at the last local meeting when his flashy chestnut filly lumped the 63kg impost to score a dominant victory over Atomic Surprise but an additional weight penalty provides plenty of interest.

Ray Spokes was aboard the son of Winning Rupert on this occasion and it is significant the popular hoop has been engaged by the stable for the feature race assignment.

Miss Tapestry is a lightly raced mare from the Kris Lees stable and a tidy effort at Coffs Harbour when resuming from a spell provides an ideal preparation for the appointment while De Lovely Lad deserves to break through after consistent performances at Tuncurry and Taree.

The Mikki Isle gelding is trained by Neil Godbolt and the prominent local conditioner is hopeful that De Lovely Lad can perform well before October Revolution faces the starter in the final event.

The well named gelding by Russian Revolution provides bright prospect for the stable following a narrow victory over La Vesuvius at Taree last weekend.

Port Macquarie Race Club is delighted to welcome Peak Coffee as major sponsor for the Easter Cup and encourage everyone to visit their headquarters located at 30 Jambali Rd together with associated destinations in the local area.

A big thanks also go to Sprague and Associates, Colourworks, Kew Corner Store, Constable Print and Enzo Woodfired Pizza for their support of the program.

There will be full trackside coverage of the local races and all the action from around the country will be beamed live including the second day of The Star Championships from Royal Randwick headed by the $5m Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

The Autumn Carnival continues with Port Macquarie Sharks Day on Sunday 16th April featuring a well-balanced seven event program catering for most grades.

The smorgasbord of racing culminates in the Hastings Business Women’s Network meeting on Sunday 23rd April with a reminder that GA tickets can be pre-booked online or purchased on raceday for all these meetings with further information regarding reserved seating available by contacting Port Macquarie Race Club's office on (02) 6581 1964 or email on admin@portmacquarieraceclub.com.au

There are plenty of great viewing and seating areas available with refreshment, dining and wagering facilities in full operation throughout the grounds and the club has introduced a new two and three-course dining menus with details appearing on the club’s website.

The committee of Port Macquarie Race Club headed by club president, Greg Delaforce, would like to wish everyone a safe and peaceful Easter and say thanks for your continued support.
