It’s largely short odds and civility when racing’s renowned Cleary’s target home meets and they’re primed for a big day at Sunday’s Queanbeyan TAB meeting.
Prolific local premiership trainer Joe and his father Frank provide hot winning form favourites in several of the seven TAB races, and they have a rare clash in the fourth event.
Joe with four runners continues his long and productive association with Gerry Harvey and the enthusiasm is unwavering for celebrated veteran Frank with just the lone runner these days the highly promising My Last Hooray.
“I don’t think there’s anything in the naming, if Dad was hinting retirement it’s been put on hold by this horse - a pearler and he’s just bought a Hellbent yearling,” Joe explained.
My Last Hooray and Joe’s Kissing Supido are opposed in a Queanbeyan Leagues Country Boosted and Above BM 58, 1000m.
“Dad’s a marvel for his age, only got the one in work but he’s got it going enormous, if it’s a family match race, I’m a chance but certainly not talking it up.”
For good reason as My Last Hooray has won his past two 1000m starts by wide margins at Queanbeyan ($1.55) and Goulburn ($1.65) with scintillating speed. And the 57.37 seconds home win is low surface flying.
My Last Hooray rises to 61kg for regular rider Billy Owen while Kissing Supido with three race wins a hefty 63.5kg less the valuable 4kg claim for apprentice Kim Shoard.
Joe was more focused on Galston Gorge in the opening event, a TAB APP Mdn 1000m and Snitz and Straand in a Queanbeyan Cup 29th Nov BM 58, 1460m.
Galson Gorge has 59kg for Jess Taylor and later Snitz and Straand 56kg for Quayde Krough. Both were moved on by Harvey for winnable country races with Joe and deemed below city grade.
“Galston Gorge is my best for the day, well forward first-up I think it’ll be winning off its work, bred well enough (Zoustar) it was originally with Gerald Ryan.
“The other filly from the Neasham stable won a Wagga maiden for us well enough and is progressive.”
At present Queanbeyan is a Soft 5 in fine weather.
