Sunday week’s Goulburn Australia Goulburn Cup meeting will feature the 10th edition of The Guy Walter, a race named in honour of the Hall of Fame trainer.
And Newgate Farm has been a valued multi-year partner of The Guy Walter, a $50,000 Class 3 fillies and mares race.
This year Newgate Farm is offering a major incentive for winning connections in the form of a complimentary stallion service to exciting sire North Pacific.
An Inglis Premier Sale topper in 2019, North Pacific offers breeders the exciting combination of performance and pedigree.
After placing in the Group 2-Silver Slipper behind subsequent Golden Slipper winner Farnan, North Pacific then went on to break his maiden at Rosehill by over two lengths.
As a three-year-old, he annihilated the field in a five-length romp in the Group 3-Up and Coming Stakes before going on to finish second in the Group 1-Golden Rose, only beaten narrowly by Ole Kirk.
Bruce Slade, Director of Bloodstock at Newgate Farm said the timing is ideal as North Pacific's progeny are about to make their presence felt on the track.
“North Pacific is well set up to make his impact on our stallion ranks with 135 first crop two-year-olds set to debut on Australian racetracks this season," Slade offered.
"A proper Group 1 talent with Group 1 looks, we expect the value of North Pacific’s services to well exceed his $15,000 + GST fee this season in the next 12 to 24 months.”
Goulburn District Race Club's President, Ken Ikin said Newgate Farm's involvement represents a meaningful partnership that is a key part of the club's flagship raceday.
"Our relationship with the Newgate Farm team on The Guy Walter is a valued one and we welcome their generous support in 2024.
"The Guy Walter is an integral part of our Cup Day program and reaches a ten-year milestone this year. The race carries a torch for the legacy of Guy, both as a trainer and mentor," Ikin highlighted.
Guy Walter's demonstrable and ongoing influence in the tablelands has been there for all to see in recent years.
Local trainers such as Tash Burleigh (Mosgold 2023) and Emma Longmire (Lady Kah 2022) both got huge thrills out of training the winner of the race named in honor of one of their mentors.
Nominations for the Newgate Farm The Guy Walter and the full Goulburn Australia Goulburn Cup program close at 11am on Tuesday 20th August.
