New Fashion Series Set To Launch At Dubbo Country Championships

By Julieanne Horsman

For the devoted, Fashions On The Field is serious business. Finding the perfect dress or suit, designing a standout hat to match and dying gloves and painting shoes to ensure they’re exactly the right colour. Countless hours and dollars are spent on each outfit in an attempt to win a sash and the glory that comes with it.

The most dedicated participants don’t mind racking up the kilometres either and with the launch of the new Western Region Fashion Series at Dubbo Turf Club this Sunday they’ll have plenty of incentive to explore new racetracks.

Fashions On The Field heats for men and women will be held at Dubbo, Coonamble, Narromine and Bourke between now and November, similar to the way the New South Wales Picnic Champion Series is run. Points will be awarded to all participants and extra points will be given to the winner and runners up. After Dubbo’s Derby Day meeting on Saturday, 3rd November 2018 the 20 ladies and 10 men with the most points will be invited to compete in Fashion Series Final at Dubbo on Melbourne Cup Day.

Among the prizes for the Fashion Series Final is an $8,000 diamond ring thanks to Whitney’s Jewellers in Dubbo.

Stylish men and women can get a head start on the competition at the Milestone Hotel Ladies Day Out at Dubbo Turf Club this Sunday. Every contestant will earn two points and the winner will score an extra 2.5 points, the runner-up gets a bonus 2 points and third place-getter 1.5 points.

Registration opens at midday and judging begins at 12pm. Entry is open to men and women 18 years and over.

Upcoming heats of the Western Region Fashion Series include:

Back O’Bourke Picnics – Sunday, 1st April 2018

Lifeline Boys Day Out at Dubbo – Sunday 6th May 2018 (splash of colour theme)
