Neil Evans's Tips For Wagga (Friday 24th December)

The track is a Good 4 with the rail True. Weather is fine and hot (34 deg) with light winds.

Race 1 (1:00pm) LAMBPRO BM 66 HANDICAP-HEAT OF WAGGA STAYERS SERIES (2000m)

We open with a heat of the Wagga Stayers Series and typically, there are plenty of hopes. Talented Canberra mare 5. Room Number ($6 on TAB) doesn't always find her best but is suited here. Deep into the prep and coming off two solid closing runs in stronger Highway company, she looks beautifully treated from the draw on the limit weight.

Dangers: Expect 2. Vintage Diesel ($5.50) to progress sharply third-up and back in grade after being outclassed in two metropolitan runs in Victoria. Well weighted after the claim. Tough provincial five-year-old 3. Foxtrot Bravo ($2.80 favourite) is also well served coming back in grade deep into his prep. Canberra mare 4. Larmour ($5.50) is one of a few capable of finishing hard out to this trip fifth-up, while include last start BM 58 winner 6. Taliano ($11) in wider exotics.

How to play it: Room Number to win and box exacta 2,3,5
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 (1:35pm) IRON JACK MAIDEN PLATE (1400m)

Speed should be okay in this and the little drop back in trip augurs well for Albury four-year-old 4. Honour The Legend ($2.70 fav) who is banging on the door after three runs this prep. Missed narrowly finding the line behind the stablemate last time and right at his peak now.

Dangers: Improving local mare 9. Bangalee Mist ($4) is much better placed from the inside draw after doing it tough from the wide barrier here 18 days ago. Lightly raced three-year-old 7. My Brother Bob ($5) has found the line okay in three runs this prep but will have a task slotting in from a wide gate.

How to play it: Honour The Legend to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 (2:10pm) WILLIAM FARRER HOTEL BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1400m)

Good field for this grade with sound depth. Smart Albury mare 9. Miss Isolation ($3.40 fav) has won two of her last three, the most recent sweeping home from well back in weaker grade. Tackling some better ones here but still well treated carrying 2kg less and is on a real upward spiral.

Dangers: Home five-year-old 2. Demanding Mo ($4.60) hasn't won for a while but he's hard fit and continues to find the line. Up sharply 4kg for a drop in grade but looking for this longer journey. Tough mare 1. Sly Song ($5) has held her form well all preparation although not suited on a firm track lumping this weight from the wide draw, while 4. Zarafah ($9) can run home into the placings first-up with blinkers again removed.

How to play it: Miss Isolation to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 (2:45pm) ADAMS KENNEALLY WHITE TED RYDER CUP (1600m)

Canberra mare 3. Propose To Me ($2.90) disappointed in the Prelude but she was left without any cover too far from home and the small field didn't suit on a heavy surface. Can be ridden quieter here fifth-up in a race with more pressure on and is the best weighted runner in the race.

Dangers: Local seven-year-old 1. Zakeriz ($2.70 fav) shoots for three straight wins after virtually being handed the Prelude out in front in a four-horse field. Will roll forward again but up 3kg in weight on a much less advantaged firmer track, he threatens to go around under the odds. Consistent six-year-old 4. Nieces And Nephews ($4.40) and 2. Upper House ($9.50) can fill the minor end of the first four.

How to play it: Propose To Me to win
Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 5 (3:20pm) LIME LEAF CATERING CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1000m)

Back to the sprint trip where a Victorian raider can strike. Lightly raced three-year-old 1. Qeyaady ($5) has been gelded since a fair closing effort in much deeper grade at Moonee Valley five weeks ago. Looks very well treated under 58.5kg after the claim back in country class.

Dangers: Naturally from the soft draw and coming back from stronger Highway grade, early short-priced favourite 3. London Gal ($1.85 fav) will be hard to hold out shooting for a third consecutive win. Gap to the rest headed by 5. Tulla Park ($6) who resumes without publicly trialling but normally fires on the fresh side, and consistent 2. Big Day Out ($6) who has been placed in four of his last five.

How to play it: Qeyaady each-way and quinella 1 and 3
Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 6 (4:00pm) 100 CLUB 2022 AVAILABLE NOW MAIDEN HANDICAP (1000m)

Very tricky affair with most of the field on debut, while the exposed form is terrible. Keen at the value with debutante Al Maher mare 10. Al Murree ($8) who was close-up in a trial here in good time and is trained on the track.

Dangers: Local Dream Ahead filly 12. Blushing Mary ($2.80 fav) has trialled strongly here but is drawn off the track. Keep safe home track Starspangledbanner three-year-old 9. Salute Again ($8.50) who debuts off a nice trial and claims 1.5kg. Included in exotics 1. Ankle Hero ($11) on debut from the inside draw.

How to play it: Al Murree each-way
Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 7 (4:40pm) ALAN HARRIS McDONALD OPEN HANDICAP (1200m)

The firm track is the only query here for lightly raced Canberra mare 6. Tejori ($2.20 fav) down in class fifth-up. Was dominant from barrier to box in heavy ground at Gundagai before sticking on strong in much tougher metro BM 72 grade three weeks ago. Does like the cut out of the ground, but she's sensationally weighted carrying only 55kg in this company.

Dangers: Honest local 8. Kurocaine ($3.60) also drops in weight and class fifth. Watch the betting on 4. Westlink ($7) who resumes behind two forward trials.

How to play it: Tejori to win
Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 8 (5:20pm) THOMAS BLAMEY TAVERN CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1450m)

We wrap up the Christmas Eve meeting with another testing sprint and most of the better chances are drawn wide. Promising Canberra four-year-old 6. Unique Prince ($3.20 fav) can build further on an already impressive record. Swept home from midfield third-up to win a similar class here 18 days ago and destined for bigger prizes.

Dangers: Keep safe provincial mare 5. Crystal Waters ($7) back in her right grade fourth-up and drawn to get a soft run. Included in exotics 8. Our Baez ($7.50) who has a solid record here at home and prefers it dry, while 11. Whenittrainsitpours ($4.80) resumes behind a nice trial win and is also a knock-out chance.

How to play it: Unique Prince to win
Odds and Evens: Split
