Neil Evans's Tips For Sunday's Bathurst Race Meeting

By Neil Evans

Bathurst is rated a Heavy 10 with the rail in the TRUE position.

Race 1 (12:40pm) JB CIVIL ENGINEERING CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2000m)

We start over the longer journey on a surface that's been lashed by rain, although the forecast is for clearing weather so a potential upgrade awaits. Metropolitan mare 5. Bacio Del Mist is ready to win again after being narrowly beaten in her last three, each time hitting the line from midfield. By Reliable Man and is the superior heavy tracker in the field.

Dangers: Keep safe improving four-year-old 1. Alloway who steps up in trip, but has a tidy second-up record; while consistent mare 6. Vanilla Sky has had four runs back generally against deeper opposition, and should land a nice trail just off the speed.
How to play it: Bacio Del Mist to win
Odds and Evens: Odds
Race 2 (1:15pm) ERIN'S QUALITY OUTDOOR POWER CENTRE BM58 HCP (1400m)

Keen on metro filly 4. Eve 'N' Ruby peaking at this distance third-up. Swept home to win first-up against provincial opposition before making late ground in a much deeper race at Muswellbrook. Handles the wet and winkers have been applied.

Dangers: Tough seven-year-old 1. The Scotsman resumes off a steady trial, normally comes to hand fresh and likes this going. Was scratched from a later race to run here. Watch the betting on lightly raced and progressive filly 7. Sinaloa if she backs up in six days after charging late to just miss here; while 3. Blackadder is hard fit for this trip, but normally needs it drier.
How to play it: Eve 'N' Ruby to win
Odds and Evens: Split
Race 3 (1:56pm) WATERMART MAIDEN HANDICAP (1400m)

Like improving provincial three-year-old 2. Tillman second-up over further. Chased strongly resuming in heavy ground, and will roll forward from a middle gate.

Dangers: Lightly raced metro colt 1. Golden Doubt has to lump 61kg fourth-up, but he's been close-up in two stronger provincial maidens. Bred to handle the weight, but a watch on the inside ground if it gets very chopped up. Improving 3. Texerro is another one up in distance at his third start, and the addition of blinkers could switch him on. Both 4. Savant De Lune at his second start with winkers added; and 7. McLellan deep into his prep; can run into a place.
How to play it: Tillman to win and quinella 1 and 2
Odds and Evens: Split
Race 4 (2:35pm) BATHURST GLASS & WINDOWS CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1300m)

Tricky and competitive race. Capable and well bred city mare 3. Blue Jager has been freshened up via a trial after being pulled up on the Beaumont track. Reportedly back in shape, and won her maiden at this track as a hot favorite three starts ago.

Dangers: Tough four-year-old 1. Stay Wealthy stuck on okay chasing in a handy CL1 third-up, and is a reliable weight carrier in heavy ground. Watch the betting on Ex-Victorian 2. Dissonance having his first run for a new stable off a 10 week break, and the Dissident stock are going well. Home track filly 7. Boongarra Girl bolted in her maiden from off the speed three weeks ago, and has a real liking for rain-affected ground; while watching the market on local US-bred filly 5. Imperioness deep into her first prep after sweeping home to win her maiden at Mudgee two starts back.
How to play it: Blue Jager to win and trifecta 1,3/1,2,3,5,7/1,2,3,5,7
Odds and Evens: Odds
Race 5 (3:11pm) BATHURST RSL CLUB F&M BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1100m)

Consistent local mare 2. Arimathea resumes in a suitable sprint, with a 3kg claim. Didn't miss a place in five runs prior up to BM 58 grade, and will come to hand quickly despite having not publicly trialled.

Dangers: Improving metro filly 1. Heavenly Field can peak third-up in these conditions dropping back from provincial level. Provincial filly and last start heavy track maiden winner 3. Heavenly Prophet draws to get a nice trail, and is clear best of the rest.
How to play it: Arimathea to win and box exacta 1,2,3
Odds and Evens: Split
Race 6 (3:50pm) KENNARDS HIRE CG&E BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1100m)

The boys' edition is weak, and looks ideal for a tough seven-year-old 8. Petain who draws to get cover, and has been placed in two of his last three against better opposition. Boasts a solid heavy track record.

Dangers: Expecting provincial-based 7. Debit Credit to figure well into his prep. Honest four-year-old 3. The Mediator can improve again fourth-up over a bit more ground. Both 5. Rocketing To Win second-up; and home tracker 6. Tiger King can run into a place.
How to play it: Petain to win
Odds and Evens: Split
Race 7 (4:30pm) HOTHAM'S SAND SOIL & GRAVEL MAIDEN PLATE (1100m)

The maidens bring us home, and Warwick Farm 3YO 4. Pyramid Of Fire can break through deep into his prep. Kept chasing a handy winner two starts back in similar ground before again working home in a deeper race on the South Coast. Peaks fitness-wise and has shown more than enough in rain-affected going.

Dangers: Keep a big watch on Per Incanto filly 9. Perkova who resumes off a long break and two progressive trials for a strong metro stable. Metro four-year-old 1. Harapan resumes having contested much stronger provincial races last prep, but a query in heavy ground. Watch the betting on local 2. Island Rock who hasn't done much in three runs across his first real prep, but draws inside for his first assault in these conditions; while lightly-raced 3. Niccouretta can improve second-up with blinkers coming off. Include lightly raced 6. Uno Artie in wider exotics.
How to play it: Pyramid Of Fire to win
Odds and Evens: Split
