Neil Evans' Tips For Tamworth (Monday)

By Neil Evans

Track downgraded to Heavy 9 and rail out 2m

Race 1 MAIDEN HCP (1200m):

We start with a very tricky maiden on what could develop into a tough pattern read with heavy rain forecast. Expecting sharp improvement from provincial three-year-old 4. Threetimeslucky after one run back when he was well supported in the market. Bred to handle rain-affected going, and has a bit more scope than the others.

Dangers: Rival provincial colt 3. Senseiche can also improve second-up with blinkers added. Local five-year-old 5. Fields Of Red is still trying tobreak through at his 26th start, but he's been close-up in a couple of handy maidens, draws to get a soft run on-speed. and is hard fit.

How to play it: Threetimeslucky to win and box exacta 3,4,5. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 MAIDEN PLATE (1400m):

Another tough maiden. Lightly raced three-year-old 11. Montari is the one to beat after hitting the line in two runs to start his career. Not convinced he's overly suited on the smaller and tighter track, but has more than enough ability in this company.

Dangers: Progressive local four-year-old 3. Royal Confession is drawn wide, but can peak over an ideal trip. Has finished well into the placings all three runs this prep, and the weight is again off-set by a 2kg claim. Gap to the rest

How to play it: Montari to win and quinella 3 and 11. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 MAIDEN PLATE (1000m):

With this race cut up by scratchings, improving filly 11. Cupid's Kiss can strike fourth-up in suitable ground after being preferred here to Coonamble on Sunday.

Dangers: keep safe local four-year-old 2. Distant Secret who resumes off a lengthy break; while four-year-old mare 5. Discompose also returns with a string of key gear changes.

How to play it: Cupid's Kiss to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 OPEN HCP (1000m):

Very keen on six-year old mare 7. Miss Powerbelle who can resume with a bang off two progressive trials in suitable ground. Boasts a smart fresh record, and before spelling easily beat a handy BM 74 field in heavy ground. The one to beat.

Dangers: Local six-year-old 2. Lord Tony has only missed a place once from nine starts at home, and resumes from the inside draw. Consistent sprinter, although he's a query in these conditions.

How to play it: Miss Powerbelle to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 5 CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1600m):

A battle of tempto at set weights. Promising four-year-old 4. Freedom Square finds a nice race second-up, although first time in heavy ground. Was bustled out sitting way too close on a good speed resuming, and can be ridden quieter here and eased to the outside. Sire was a dominant Group 3 winner in heavy going.

Dangers: Tough five-year-old 2. Capital Venture was strong late over this distance after finishing best to claim his maiden, but some query from the low draw if he gets too far off the speed. Include in wider exotics 1. Barellan Bandit third-up; and 5. Let Him Fly who is a winner on Soft 7 ground.

How to play it: Freedom Square to win. Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 6 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1400m):

The more rain the better for highly capable wet track mare 6. Deep Mirror who comes off a smart CL2 win fourth-up, and draws to stay out in the middle.

Dangers: Liked the way underrated four-year-old 3. Red Beryl worked home from well back in a CL2 here after scoring the previous start, and he's already a soft track winner; while 8. Yulong Monoceros drops in grade and can handle the conditions.

How to play it: Deep Mirror to win; and quinella 3 and 6. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 7 CLASS 3 HCP (1200m):

Committed fan of four-year-old 3. Raoul who swept home for a dominant maiden win first-up off a lengthy break. Doesn't appear well weighted jumping sharply to this grade, but has a stack of ability, and relishes rain-affected going.

Dangers: Keep safe local five-year-old 5. Absolute Legend down significantly in weight second-up; while tough six-year-old 8. Joey's Chance has finished hard into a place all three runs this prep, and over the odds here.

How to play it: Raoul to win. Odds and Evens: Odds

BEST BETS:
R4 7. MISS POWERBELLE
R7. 3. RAOUL

BEST VALUE:
R1 4. THREETIMESLUCKY
