Neil Evans' Tips For Tamworth (Friday)

By Neil Evans

Track Soft 5 and rail out 2m.

Race 1 MAIDEN PLATE (1000m):

We start another strong Showcase meeting with a big field of maiden sprinters. Confident at the value improving two-year old local filly 14. Dubai Bound can strike third-up, with an important pre-race gear change. Showed tactical speed before going under by a head here at big odds a fortnight ago, and this looks a shade thinner.

Dangers: Plenty of them headed by progressive home track filly 8. Distant who led all the way to win that same race as the top selection, although has to overcome a tough and wide draw. Similarly, 3. Super Story is drawn very wide, but was good first-up when hitting the front at the furlong before being run down late. Further out in the market, 2. Freewheeler is each-way value again on the limit weight after a 4kg claim; while 18. Ribtickler resumes from a soft draw behind a dominant trial win, but naturally needs scratchings to get a run.

How to play it: Dubai Bound each way
Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 2 MAIDEN PLATE (1400m):

It doesn't get any easier in this over 400m further, although sparingly race four-year-old 2. French Comet looms as the one to beat second-up, with winkers going on. Worked home okay behind a smart winner when resuming, and better suited here on a bigger track, with a far superior and stronger jockey taking over.

Dangers: Expecting 4. Magic Prophet to be in the finish third-up over 100m further. Improving 10. Lady Brulee ran home okay in provincial company at her second start, although has to get across here from a tough draw. Honest 5. Master Tyler deep into the prep; 7. Penfold Park first-up with gear changes; and 11. Little Bit Yours down in weight; can all add big value into trifecta and first four plays.

How to play it: French Comet to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 BENCHMARK 66 HCP (1600m):

Good quality battle here over the mile, and can't go past provincial mare 4. Show Me You Love making it two straight at the track third-up. Hit the line late when resuming in a handy CL2 before sweeping home from midfield to beat a similar field here. Kept on the fresher side and still lightly raced, from a softer trailing draw staying at the distance she can repeat the dose.

Dangers: Big watch on talented home tracker 10. Tyson's Dream up a furlong in trip second-up. So too rival local 2. Torowoto who shapes over the odds third-up dropping in grade, with the leading country rider going on. Include in exotics, 5. Mr Severino back from provincial level third-up; and 7. Rebel's Edge who was beaten a long way in tougher Highway company last start.

How to play it: Show Me Your Love to win
Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 4 CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1600m):

Very keen here on promising three-year-old 5. Martedi at his third start. Stalked the speed before going home best to win his maiden 19 days ago despite being very green over the final furlong. Given more time and education, and stepping up suitably in distance, he's the clear measuring stick here given any sort of half decent run in transit.

Dangers: Keep safe 3. Triple Money third-up coming off a dominant maiden win here a fortnight ago over this trip. Improving provincial filly 11. Akauwheo loomed to win third-up here in a weaker grade before finding one stronger late, but while is tougher, she drops 3.5kg in weight. First-up maiden winner 8. Miss Shalaa is over the odds, despite a sizable jump in class; while 10. Oakfield Redgum is capable of running into the minor money third-up.

How to play it: Martedi to win
Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 5 MAIDEN HCP (1200m):

Impressed with the debut run here a fortnight ago of three-year-old 1. Eagledge who can break through with gear changes in play. Worked across to trail the speed and kept surging to only go under by a half head. Stays at the distance, and only needs to find some cover to open his account.

Dangers: Respect for local 5. Social Outcast who resumes for only his second start behind two handy trials. Stablemate filly 8. Bijara is also first-up off two trials; while 10. Rhiannon who returns for her first run in 15 weeks; and 12. Truffles second-up; both go in the exotics.

How to play it: Eagledge to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 CLASS 3 HCP (1400m):

Potentially strong form race for this class, and naturally plenty of chances. Like progressive four-year-old 3. Assiduity who landed a strong betting move second-up in lower grade at Armidale, jumping to the front and careering away by more than four lengths. Drops 3kg for this toughest test, and still with room to improve.

Dangers: Always been a big fan of hard fit 10. Bean Rocking who finished late into a place from a mile back behind the top selection, and gets hefty weight relief for this. Naturally 1. Oakfield Prince is right in the race from the inside draw first-up behind two provincial trials; while 4. The Wayfarer with some weight relief deep into the prep; 7. Adelsun who flashed home from a mile back in a BM 58 here a fortnight ago; and 9. Dolly Jayne who draws to get a much softer run in transit; are all in the each-way mix.

How to play it: Assiduity to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 7 OPEN HCP (1200m):

Now the open class sprinters lock horns, and it shapes well for still lightly raced five-year-old 3. Ceasefire who is ready to win again. Was strong late getting home in a deeper BM 72 metro race before missing by a whisker in the Aberdeen Cup run at BM 85 level. Looks well treated under the weight in this company, and to jockey sticks.

Dangers: Another five-year-old 2. Comonic is racing in career best form, edged out narrowly under a big weight in Highway grade before hooking right to the outside rail to avoid a horribly biased track at Scone and sweeping home to easily win a BM 86. Gap to the rest headed by 6. Holy Tycoon who improves sharply second-up with key gear changes; and progressive local 14. Roussos who drops 5kg in weight, stepping up significantly in grade from a first-up win.

How to play it: Ceasefire to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 8 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1000m):

Back in trip for a restricted sprint, and from the same stable as the previous on top selection, emerging two-year-old 13. Perennial can take the next step after an emphatic win on debut. Carries the same weight, with some gear adjustments, and he looks destined to fry much bigger fish down the track.

Dangers: Keep safe 2. Zoom Outcome who draws to get a soft run coming back significantly in class from Highway company. Another one over the each-way odds is 14. Villa Treville who led for a fair way behind a smart winner last start after a dominant front-running maiden win here five weeks ago. Include 1. Clifton Springs behind a tough win in deeper class at Dubbo; and lightly raced 8. Outback Ringer first-up; in exotic bets.

How to play it: Perennial to win
Odds and Evens: Split

BEST BETS:
R2 2. FRENCH COMET
R3 4. SHOW ME YOUR LOVE

BEST VALUE:
R6 3. ASSIDUITY
