Neil Evans' Tips For Scone (Tuesday)

By Neil Evans

Track Soft 5 and rail out 3m:

Race 1 CLASS 1 HCP (900m):

We start over the short course on a track that continues to dry out, and may even get close to Good range. Plenty of chances headed by home track filly 6. Mezinjit who resumes off a nice trial win when she rounded them up impressively from off the speed with something in hand, and senior country jockey sticks. Has tactical speed, and gets first use of the inside on an improving surface.

Dangers: Rival home tracker 1. Epic Time has improved sharply in his last two attacking the line from well back, and despite the 60kg impost and a wide gate, he will be charging home if he finds enough cover early. Well bred local three-year-old 7. Hiraishin has mixed his form this prep, but much better suited on a firmer surface; while 3. Anchor's Point is hard fit, and should get a nice run just off the speed.

How to play it: Mezinjit to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 MAIDEN HCP (1300m):

Like the value here about progressive Newcastle three-year-old 3. Hettinger second-up. Should have won resuming at Tamworth when held up for a long way before only getting clear late, and back to a bigger track is a plus.

Dangers: Provincial three-year-old 1. Kayobi is second-up a month between runs via a smart trial win, and likely to jump a hot favourite. Charged home to miss narrowly here in a handy quality maiden, but threatens to go around under the odds under a career high 60.5kg. Gap to the rest headed by 4. Twisted Nikkas who wasn't far away first-up in a deeper provincial maiden; while local filly 7. Miss Milton third-up; and metro-based Smart Missile filly 8. Badda Boom Baby on debut; both go in trifectas and first fours.

How to play it: Hettinger to win and quinella 1 and 3
Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 3 MAIDEN HCP (1300m):

Play it again Sam for the maidens, and it strikes an ideal note for emerging Wyong filly 3. Piccadilly Lass at just her second start. Almost made a mockery of her huge price on debut at Tamworth thundering home late to be beaten half length, and being by 2014 Cox Plate winner Adelaide, more ground and a longer straight only boosts her credentials.

Dangers: Keep safe consistent three-year-old 6. Hoku who has trialled okay since beating all but the winner in two runs for the new stable after transferring from Victoria; while 4. Karaoke King can improve second-up down in weight.

How to play it: Piccadilly Lass to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 MAIDEN PLATE (1000m):

Keen on progressive provincial three-year-old 2. Oakfield Duke coming back 100m in trip. Was gallant on debut in a tougher maiden after stalking the speed, and the 12-day back-up is a solid pointer he's going well. The one to beat.

Dangers: Improving metro filly 6. Rock Chant gets blinkers third-up. Watch the betting on two-year-old 10. Garside who did his best work late on debut in heavy ground at Port; while include 7. Sharkosphere second-up in wider exotics.

How to play it: Oakfield Duke to win
Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 5 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1700m):

Smart Newcastle filly 7. Zippy Power surged home to win her maiden second-up at Port, and drew to get lovely cover here a few lengths off the speed. The one to beat.

Dangers: Honest home tracker 1. Reach Beyond finished off okay first-up for nearly nine months, and the longer trip suits with a claim. Provincial three-year-old 6. Tillman has only missed a place once in seven starts, although doesn't want it too firm.

How to play it: Zippy Power to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 OPEN HCP (1000m):

Good competitive dash over five furlongs, and not much between the leading few. Talented Tamworth four-year-old 10. Casino Lord doesn't always deliver but she resumes carrying her lightest weight for a long time, and will relish the long sweeping straight. Was very competitive in tougher Highway grade late last year before only two and somewhat luckless runs last prep. Drawn to sit back with cover, and capable of a superior final 400m sprint with a clear run.

Dangers: Home track four-year-old 4. Street Power is a clear threat fifth-up from a good trailing draw. Failed against a deeper metro field before working home strong at Inverell when only swamped by one in much better ground out wide, and this is his best distance. Must keep safe tough five-year-old 3. Mr Polar who lines up for his sixth start in eight weeks. Local filly 7. One Penny did it tough from the wide gate resuming in Highway class, and must be respected dropping back to this field from the inside barrier; while 5. Endless River is the best of the rest from a better draw.

How to play it: Casino Lord each way and trifecta 4,10/3,4,5,7,10/3,4,5,7,10
Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 7 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1300m):

Lightly raced metro three-year-old 3. Final Statement comes off a barrier-to-box first-up win in a moderate maiden. Has been kept ticking over at the trials, and the race has been weakened with a couple of early fancies coming out.

Dangers: Keep safe 11. Bel Suono who has shown sharp improvement in his last two; while capable mare 12. Spritza Seritza has also been up for a long while, but normally saves her best for home.

How to play it: Final Statement to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 8 CLASS 1 HCP (1100m):

Talented and improving metro mare 8. Miss Barty's Party is suited, drawn to get to the outside. Charged home late to miss narrowly resuming at Bathurst, and she already has a very handy second-up record.

Dangers: Home track four-year old 1. Velorum is over the odds also second-up coming back 100m in trip a month between runs. Metro three-year-old 3. Rupertson went close first-up in that same CL1 as the top selection, and drew to get plenty of cover. Included in exotic plays, ex-Victorian filly 5. Maha's Choice who has her first run for the new local stable via an easy trial; and 6. Hard To Excel third-up with blinkers back on.

How to play it: Miss Barty's Party to win
Odds and Evens: Split

BEST BETS:
R4 2. OAKFIELD DUKE
R8 8. MISS BARTY'S PARTY

BEST VALUE:
R6 10. CASINO LORD
