Neil Evans' Tips For Scone (Tuesday)

By Neil Evans

Track likely Good 4 and rail True

Race 1 CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2200m):

Modest bunch of stayers at set weights get us rolling, and progressive metropolitan three-year-old 2. On Bail can go back to back. Tracked the speed before taking over early in the straight for a dominant win on a bog track at Wyong, and drops back to country company for the first time in five starts.

Dangers: Doubt there are any, but honest local four-year-old 3. Dobbin with multiple gear changes; and provincial colt 6. Jonah Tali on the limit weight; can fight out the minor end of the prize.

How to play it: On Bail to win and quinella 2 and 6. Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 2 CLASS 1 HCP (1000m):

Heat of the Rising Star stacks up well for ultra consistent provincial four-year-old 2. Greenheart who has beaten all bar the winner in three runs this prep. Again drawn to find his customary trail just off the speed, and gets a nice weight drop.

Dangers: Progressive three-year-old 4. American President has a a tonne of raw ability, and finally broke through charging home as a hot favourite third-up. Will drift back from a wide gate, but should love the long stretch here, and capable of running a dashing final 400m. Keep safe 1. Lovemetender who resumes off a nine week break, and looked sharp winning a trial six days ago.

How to play it: Greenheart to win. Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 3 CLASS 1 HCP (1400m):

Well bred four-year-old 2. Still In Fashion can peak to effect third-up on his home track. Has found the line well in consecutive BM 58s, and with top country hoop regaining the ride, just needs to steer away from the inside on the turn to take the prize.

Dangers: Improving mare 9. Palisades was impressive scooting clear from the trail to easily win her maiden here 17 days ago, and carries 1kg less for this slightly tougher test. Keep safe last start maiden winner 11. Pippen who likes to flood home from well back and gets in on the limit weight.

How to play it: Still In Fashion to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 MAIDEN PLATE (1100m):

Very testing maiden, with most of the chances drawn wider out. Provincial-based Capitalist three-year-old 3. Oakfield Mahogany is on top after showing good cruising speed in winning both lead-up trials, although draws wide and will need to find an early position.

Dangers: From an even wider gate, Written Tycoon three-year-old 4. Packer has spent a long time at the trials, ridden quietly in the most recent two. Was preferred here to Taree on Sunday. Resuming metro filly 15. Williams Bay has been given two forward trials, and blinkers come off; while both I Am Invincible filly 9. Eva Daniela who debuts in blinkers behind two progressive trials; and home track filly 12. Miss Milton with blinkers off fifth-up; both go through exotic plays.

How to play it: Oakfield Mahogany to win and first four 3,4,15/3,4,9,12,15/3,4,9,12,15/3,4,9,12,15. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 5 MAIDEN HCP (1300m):

Keen on lightly raced provincial filly 8. Rockbarton Ruby three weeks since a flashing debut run when she charged home late at Tamworth. Preferred here to a couple of other races over the last week, and extra 100m on a bigger track is right up her alley.

Dangers: Provincial filly 9. Twisted Nikkas can peak at her third start back on firmer ground; while debutant Rubick filly 10. Craypot is best of the rest off two trials.

How to play it: Rockbarton Ruby each way. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 BENCHMARK 66 HCP (1300m):

Tough and open race with plenty of chances. Progressive Maurice three-year-old 7. Daichi will relish being drawn to get to the outside on a bigger track fourth-up. Has found the line well last two in provincial company, and can peak here.

Dangers: Tough four-year-old 5. Carlisle Bay rarely runs a bad one, and is well placed second-up over a bit more ground after sticking on well in a provincial CL1. Capable local mare 10. Santa Margherita has won two of her last three attacking the line from off the speed, and was scratched from Tamworth on Monday to run here. Keep safe 13. Dynastic who has been close-up in his last two after a smart BM 58 win at Muswellbrook.

How to play it: Daichi to win. Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 7 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1100m):

Very testing sprint to finish as well. Lightly raced provincial mare 9. Impulse Control is ready to fire first-up of two progressive trials, bolting in the latest by more than four lengths. Destined for better races, although would prefer a track nudging into a soft rating.

Dangers: Provincial three-year-old 11. Tupelwara has been tidy in two runs since a dominant country maiden win six weeks back, and draws to get a soft run. Big watch on resuming three-year-old 8. Ezekeil who has trialled okay and comes to hand early in the prep.

How to play it: Impulse Control each way. Odds and Evens: Split.

BEST BETS:
R3 2. STILL IN FASHION
R6 7. DAICHI

BEST VALUE:
R5 8. ROCKBARTON RUBY
