Neil Evans' Tips For Scone (Friday)

By Neil Evans

Track likely improving to Good 4 and rail True:

Race 1 2YO HCP (900m):

The youngsters get us rolling over the short course on a track that should get back into good range, although there is a slight chance of rain. Like metro-based filly 1. Dorothy Gail five weeks after sticking on well at Randwick on debut when leading, and the Capitalist stock rarely take long to break through. Reportedly kept ticking over nicely in work, and she gets first use of the inside.

Dangers: Big watch on first starter and Written Tycoon colt 3. Mafia who starts in blinkers behind two trials; while Brazen Beau colt 6. Tarabeau is also right in the battle first-up since failing in heavy ground last spring in the Group 3 Breeders. Cruised home to win the second of two recent trials, and is bred to be a real dry tracker.

How to play it: Dorothy Gail to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 CLASS 2 HCP (900m):

Staying over the short dash for an emerging field at this level, and there could be a real battle for favouritism. Settled on home track Bull Point three-year-old 5. Sharp Shock who resumes for only his third start. Can settle a touch closer than last time from this draw, and blinkers importantly go on. Charged home to win here on debut early last spring.

Dangers: Keep safe 2. In Spades second-up and suited by the slight drop back in trip; while 3. Taketheshot resuming from a low draw; and last-start BM 58 winner 6. Inferno Miss; both go in trifectas and first fours.

How to play it: Sharp Shock to win
Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 3 CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2200m):

No doubt improving four-year-old 4. Tycoon Charger will start a hot favourite and is the best weighted runner in the race. Comes off a close second in tougher city company, and race is wak after the main rival was withdrawn. Previous run too was good behind a nice staying type who was then a good thing licked at Gosford on Wednesday.

Dangers: Obvious gap to the rest headed by honest 6. Finding Alice who ran home well fourth-up without having much luck; while 2. About The Moon heads the rest fifth-up.

How to play it: Tycoon Charger to win
Odds and Evens: Evens a special

Race 4 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1700m):

Tricky race over this distance, but like the value about tough seven-year-old 3. Stay Chill from a better draw, and with a far stronger and superior jockey taking over. Worked home nicely over the mile in deeper grade two starts ago before taken to the front and only collared late 13 days ago. Better when ridden off the speed, and he'll appreciate getting back on a much bigger and sweeping course.

Dangers: Metro filly and early favourite 5. Badda Boom Baby can peak third-up over more ground, coming back from a deeper provincial race. Gap to the rest headed by 4. Piccinni who gets a soft run in transit fourth-up with gear changes, and also dropping in class; while 2. Lord Tropicana resuming; and 7. Sure Strategy back from BM 66 company; can both figure in the minor money.

How to play it: Stay Chill to win
Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 5 3YO & UP MAIDEN HCP (900m):

Back to the flying sprint, and it all stacks up nicely for local Denman filly 6. Dancedes on debut off two dominant trial wins down the road at Muswellbrook under similar conditions. Gets the right run, and the leading jockey sticks for the real thing. The one to beat.

Dangers: Doubt there are any over this dash, but watch the betting on 9. He's Purring who is hard fit, drops sharply in weight, and capable of charging home over the final furlong.

How to play it: Dancedes to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 MAIDEN HCP (1400m):

Tough race with plenty of chances. Promising three-year-old 5. Kangaroo Court felt the pressure late after sitting right behind the lead in a tougher provincial maiden on debut. That said, he was a heavily backed favorite that day, and a leading city trainer has stepped him up immediately in journey.

Dangers: Improving metro filly 3. Ballon Bleu has more than enough ability to win this deep into her first prep, but looms under the odds from a wide draw. Progressive filly 9. Serene Nic was ridden further forward at second start in Canberra before chasing home well, although will likely go back here from the wide barrier. Include 14. My Artie in exotic bets.

How to play it: Kangaroo Court to win
Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 7 MAIDEN PLATE (1100m):

Assuming fourth reserve and smart debutant Dancedes starts in an earlier race, keen at the value in a race of many chances aboard Wandjina three-year-old 2. Koga Ninja re-loading off a fair closing run on debut. Has been given a quiet trial since, and can park closer in the run here on a suitable bigger track.

Dangers: Plenty of them headed by local debutant Exosphere filly 14. Xelby who comes off a nice trial win, and more likely to start here by-passing any battle with the stablemate. Keep safe 12. Press Lightly returning off a six month spell for just her second start; while 1. Climate Control; 7. Dot Com and 17. Super Story if he gains a start; are all capable of running into the placings.

How to play it: Koga Ninja each way
Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 8 BENCHMARK 66 HCP (1100m):

Competitive sprint to finish, and love the second-up value about capable mare 2. Moetta drawn to come down the middle. Beaten a nose by shocking track bias when resuming and leading in a BM 83, but better when she can settle a little further back with a trail and charge home.

Dangers: Capable and well placed 5. Extra Flash was very strong through the line in consecutive Highway runs after sweeping home to win a BM 58 here 11 weeks ago. Gets a lovely run with cover around midfield, and will be storming late. Must include promising three-year-old 9. A Guinea who also found the line from off the speed in a Highway first-up; while 3. Just Strolling fourth-up; and consistent mare 13. Ideel Girl can both add big value to the exotics.

How to play it: Moetta each way
Odds and Evens: Split

BEST BETS:
R2 5. SHARP SHOCK
R5 6. DANCEDES

BEST VALUE:
R7 2. KOGA NINJA
