Track Good 4 and rail true:
Race 1 BENCHMARK 66 HCP (2000m): |
---|
Deep into the prep and finally getting out to this distance, underrated 1. Ring Ahoy is primed to break through. Has worked home late from well back in his last two against deeper opposition; and with a stronger rider taking over here, he can defy the big weight.
Dangers: Keep very safe 3. Sonic Tycoon fourth-up who finished well into a place in that same recent race as the top selection, but meets him slightly worse at the weights. Last start BM 58 winner 8. Oh No Bro gets a soft run from the inside around midfield stepping in grade; while 2. Pepper's Ghost second-up off a five week let-up; and 10. Don Quixote down sharply in weight for a significant rise in class; are both capable of running into the minor money.
How to play it: Ring Ahoy to win
Race 2 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1100m): |
---|
Lightly raced and progressive mare 3. Tornado Express can resume with a bang. Won two straight in her initial prep sweeping home from well off the speed, and has been fitted with two trials up to 1000m. The one to beat, especially with the main market rival being preferred at Coonabarabran on Sunday.
Dangers: 4. Enterprise Legend draws the inside; and 2. Flying Banjo drops significantly in grade second-up and gets back on drier ground.
How to play it: Tornado Express to win
Race 3 MAIDEN HCP (1450m): |
---|
After three runs back, 6. Magic Sorcerer is ready to peak fourth-up with blinkers being added. Has been run down in his last couple, but hard fit now and with significant weight relief and one of the top non-metro jockeys in NSW taking over, he's better suited. Was scratched from Coonabarabran on Sunday to be saved for this.
Dangers: 2. Kuroshinzo is still searching for a breakthrough win at his 15th start, but has more than enough ability second-up after a solid return 13 days ago. Keep safe improving 1. Coella who is drawn to find a nice trail with cover third-up; while 12. Let's Go Leo goes in trifecta and first fours.
How to play it: Magic Sorcerer to win
Race 4 COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE (1100m): |
---|
A few chances in this sprint for the boys, but 9. Impressionism, a three-year-old by Churchill and one of three first starters for the Kris Lees stable, is the one to beat on debut. Kicks off from a low draw, with the blinkers on and behind two forward trials.
Dangers: 4. Hollywood Gold has to overcome a wide barrier, but he ran home well first-up in that same race at Muswellbrook as the top selection, and gets some weight relief after the claim. Gap to the rest headed by Pierata three-year-old 11. Showrata, another Lees-trained debutant who has had two quiet trials and also wears blinkers. Gap to the rest.
How to play it: Impressionism to win
Race 5 FILLIES & MARES MAIDEN PLATE (1100m): |
---|
Handy depth in the fillies division; and it shapes nicely for yet another first starter from the Lees stable. Territories filly 11. Ready To Drink has been given plenty of time, was good through the line in two trials on both good and soft ground, and draws to get the right sort of run.
Dangers: Keep safe 12. Rose Water, a filly by top international sire Calyx, on debut for the Jason Deamer stable; while 7. Mars Rover is clear best of the rest at big odds resuming off a steady trial.
How to play it: Ready To Drink to win
Race 6 CLASS 1 HCP (1450m): |
---|
Tricky contest here. 3. Rura Penthe did his best work late third-up, and is the best weighted runner in the race after the claim, but will likely be forced a long way back from the gate.
Dangers: 1. Ekeler is hard fit and over the odds coming off a handy closing effort at Dubbo. Include 8. Smart Jazz in exotics; while 7. I'm Scarlett stepping up from consecutive wins in weaker races can finish in the money.
How to play it: Rura Penthe to win
Race 7 BENCHMARK 66 HCP (1460m): |
---|
Competitive affair, but it shapes best for improving five-year-old 3. Awesome Tycoon second-up over a longer trip. Made up a tonne of ground from the back when returning at Muswellbrook, having been well supported from $11.00 into $7.00, and won his only previous start at the same stage. Draws to get a soft run back in the pack, and only needs clear air from the 450m
Dangers: 8. Magic Flyer is down significantly in weight fourth-up tackling a stronger grade, but is ready to win. 1. Oakfield Warpaint is poorly weightwed at this level, but gets a soft run around midfield. Gap to the rest.
How to play it; Awesome Tycoon to win
Race 8 CLASS 1 HCP (1100m): |
---|
The closer looks the domain of lightly raced and emerging three-year-old 3. Calga Power re-booting off a strong maiden win at Tamworth as a heavily backed odds-on favorite. Only goes up 1kg, and has superior tactical speed over this trip.
Dangers: 4. Miss Rebel is a touch over the odds drawn low behind a dominant second-up maiden win. 2. Stratified comes back in class third-up; while 1. Voigner resumes off two steady trials.
How to play it: Calga Power to win
BEST BETS:
R2 3. TORNADO EXPRESS
R7 3. AWESOME TYCOON
