Neil Evans' Tips For Orange (Tuesday)

By Neil Evans

Track Good 4 and rail out 3.5m from 500m to 300m into a Cut/Away

Race 1 MAIDEN HCP (1000m):

The maiden sprinters get us rolling on what should be a dry track. Keen on Winning Rupert three-year-old 1. Rupertson starting his career with a bang for a leading metro stable, despite drawing wide. Has spent plenty of time being educated at the trials, and two back put six lengths on the field at Kembla.

Dangers: Had to like the way stablemate Written Tycoon filly 7. Little Miss Magic made up ground on debut at the provincials after missing the start. She was well fancied in the market that day, and blinkers have been added for what shapes as an easier race. Gap to the rest headed by resuming four-year-old 5. Strixen who has won both lead-up trials, and draws the inside; while watching the betting on provincial mare 9. Munyak who resumes off a long break and has trialled okay.

How to play it: Rupertson to win. Odds and Evens: Odds a special

Race 2 CLASS 1 HCP (1400m):

Competitive Heat of the Rising Star shapes well for progressive three-year-old 2. Cinque Torri who is part of a strong Bjorn Baker team. Churned through the ground from midfield to win his maiden third-up, and only missed by a nose at this track start before when right in the market.

Dangers: Keep safe resuming four-year-old 1. Cheeky Nugget who resumes off a forward trial, with notable gear changes, although most of his racing has been on rain-affected ground. Talented mare 5. Silver Scissors backs up in eight days after a dominant front-running maiden win, and she's finally living up to her early promise.

How to play it: Cinque Torri to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 MAIDEN PLATE (1400m):

Speed should be solid in this one. Progressive four-year-old 2. Foxwell chased home Silver Scissors valiantly at his third start, and that mare is a real chance in the stronger race prior. He had market support that day, and expecting the formline to hold up, he's well placed here from a better draw over slightly further.

Dangers: Improving metro mare 10. Midnight Oasis is the most progressive galloper in the race, but looms under the odds from the tough draw. Has never been far away in four provincial runs this prep, and this is a clear drop in quality. Included in exotics three-year-old 6. Cherry Blue third-up from a wide draw; while improving provincial mare 9. Fromdustwemust can work into the finish second-up dropping back from a deeper provincial maiden.

How to play it: Foxwell to win. Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 4 COUNTRY CLASS 2 PLATE (1280m):

Lightly raced five-year-old 2. The Drover resumed in much tougher Highway grade at Rosehill where he failed to run on through very heavy ground. Much better back in this grade on firmer footing, and he normally progresses well into his next run. Will drift back from a wide gate, but has a class edge on these especially under the set weight conditions.

Dangers: Tough six-year-old 1. Costas finds his thinnest race in a long time, and would pay little notice to his ordinary strike rate. Was competitive in two deeper grades at Dubbo before tackling that same Highway where he also failed to finish off. Back on dry ground from a nice trailing draw, he'll be hitting the line. Like the top selection, progressive three-year-old 9. De Forerunner is based at Bathurst, and looks well placed fourth-up down in weight, with a much stronger jockey taking over. Included in exotics consistent mare and last start maiden winner 10. Lipstick Lil who should land a lovely spot on-speed from the draw.

How to play it: The Drover to win and trifecta 1,2,9/1,2,9,10/1,2,9,10. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 5 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (2100m):

Like metro five-year-old 2. Private Detective who has been slowly working towards a win. Chased hard two starts back at Scone before outclassed in a significantly stronger provincial race, and this is well within his reach from the inside draw.

Dangers: Canberra five-year-old 1. Clem Fandango is racing in the best form of his career, although not convinced the inside draw does his racing pattern any favors. Has found the line to place in his last two, and less depth here. Include in exotics local mare 3. Who's Tinny who is hard fit and drops sharply in class from Highway company; while honest mare and last start Class 1 winner 8. Port Of Jeddah is the best of the rest.

How to play it: Private Detective to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 BENCHMARK 74 HCP (1400m):

Intriguing and open tactical race, with plenty of chances. Progressive metro mare 8. Twice On Sunday had to work from the tricky draw first-up, and she looks very well treated carrying 2.5kg less going from a metro BM 64 to a country BM 74. That said there's decent depth in this, and her best form is on rain affected going, but she still holds most of the aces. Beat a couple of very handy gallopers at the provincials through winter.

Dangers: Doubt there's a more consistent galloper anywhere in the state than six-year-old 4. On A Promise who shoots for six straight wins off a seven week break. Loves this distance, but taking on some better ones here from a tricky draw. Honest six-year-old 1. East Indiaman is way better than his effort in the Coonabarabran Cup, and he's had a seven week break for this little drop in trip, although poorly weighted under 60kg; while both six-year-old 7. Larynx up in grade but down sharply in weight; and underrated mare 3. The Long Run can finish into the placings.

How to play it: Twice On Sunday to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 7 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1000m):

Strong speed in this augurs well for tough nine-year-old 1. Newtown Is Coming who will naturally drift back, but be strong late. Has been taking on better opposition, and not badly off at the weights after the claim.

Dangers: Capable filly 6. Cosmic Serenade disappointed at Albury on Saturday, and doubt she'll back up in three days; while provincial mare 2. Dreamline can run home hard coming back in distance off a 25 day break.

How to play it: Newtown Is Coming each way. Odds and Evens: Split

BEST BETS:
R2 2. CINQUE TORRI
R5 2. PRIVATE DETECTIVE

BEST VALUE:
R3 2. FOXWELL
