Neil Evans' Tips For Orange (Friday)

By Neil Evans

Track Good 4 and rail out 3.5m from 500m to 300m into a Cut/Away

Race 1 CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1600m):

We start over the mile on a track that will hopefully hold together, although some rain is forecast. Improving metro mare 5. Hide Your Heart is tracking nicely to peak over this trip third-up, and gets a nice 3kg weight drop with a superior jockey taking over.

Dangers: Big watch on improving colt 4. Merisi also third-up and coming through the same last start formline as the top selection; while a big ratings gap to the rest.

How to play it: Hide Your Heart to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 BENCHMARK 66 HCP (2100m):

Very keen on tough mare 4. Eva's Deel making it two straight up in grade. Scored an overdue and dominant win from off the speed in lesser class sweeping home, and carrying 1kg less, she draws to get the right trail in a race that lacks depth.

Dangers: Metro-based 5. Sandastan showed plenty of improvement last start, and afforded a big weight drop here rising in grade. Watch the betting on 3. Private Detective who draws inside fourth-up with a change of jockey; while 2. Will To Excel is best of the rest.

How to play it: Eva's Deel to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 MAIDEN PLATE (1400m):

A few hopes in this, but improving Warwick Farm filly 12. Little Baia is ready to win up in distance at her fourth start. Loved the way she charged home from the back into a place at Goulburn a fortnight ago, with a leading country hoop taking over here under the same weight.

Dangers: Plenty of value with improving three-year-old 8. Smartawi who did his best work late second-up at the provincials. Looking for more ground now, and any rain would be a bonus. Can't ignore 3. Chain Of Gold from the inside draw after hitting the line well in metro company three weeks back, but may be unsuited on the map pattern. Included in exotics 7. Romeo's Choice with winkers added for the first time.

How to play it: Little Baia to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 MAIDEN HCP (1000m):

Tough maiden, and going very wide in the market with Denman mare 3. Fashionista who makes her debut in blinkers from a soft gate. Hasn't been publicly seen since out the back in a country trial at the start of the year, but her work has been sound, and most of these are treading water.

Dangers: Debutant mare 4. Life's A Party will be hard to hold out off a smart trial win if she gets across okay from the wide draw. Expect honest mare 13. Seminara to be running home well again deep into her prep, and finally getting down to the minimum 55kg. Improving 12. Section Twenty second-up with weight relief; and 16. Schmacko who draws the fence fifth-up are worthy players in trifectas and first fours.

How to play it: Fashionista each way
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 5 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1000m):

Not much between the top few, but keen on five-year-old 1. No Debt making it two straight wins second-up with a 2kg claim. Bounced to the front and gave nothing else a chance when resuming in weaker grade at Warren, and normally holds that form strongly into the next run.

Dangers: Another fresh winner in lightly raced eight-year-old 4. Listen To The Band will be hard to stop if the inside ground holds up okay after destroying his maiden rivals at that same meeting as the top selection. Must keep safe ultra consistent mare 6. Kora Magic who has tackled stronger fields this prep, and despite just one win from 16, has been placed a further 10 times. Gap to the rest headed by 5. East Harlem who also saluted in a weak maiden first-up, and drew to get a soft run right behind the speed.

How to play it: No Debt to win and box trifecta 1,4,5,6
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 OPEN HCP (1400m):

Underrated ex-metro four-year-old 7. Sea Treasures can turn the corner here third-up for a new country stable on a timely weight drop. His two runs back so far in deeper fields have been average, but has long tackled much tougher opposition than here. Expect him to park right behind the speed and finish over them in style.

Dangers: Keep safe 4. Dom Tycoon coming out of BM 64 provincial grade; while 6. Larynx rarely runs a bad one and drops sharply in weight, but shapes under the odds here against a few of these.

How to play it: Sea Treasures to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 7 CLASS 1 HCP (1280m):

Very keen on progressive filly 8. Covalent who won her maiden well two runs back, and draws to get a charmed run right behind the speed in a weakened race.

Dangers: Gap to the rest headed by 6. Scopics who led all the way on debut 24 days ago; while 5. Packer gets a 2kg claim, and drops back from a fair closing effort in provincial class.

How to play it: Covalent to win
Odds and Evens: Evens

BEST BETS:
R2 4. EVA'S DEEL
R3 12. LITTLE BAIA

BEST VALUE:
R6 7. SEA TREASURES
