Neil Evans' Tips For Nowra (Sunday)

By Neil Evans

Track Soft 7 and rail true:

Race 1 MAIDEN HCP (1400m):

We start with the maidens. Keen on steadily improving filly 3. Choose Your Words who can pounce third-up in her second prep, with vital wet track experience.

Dangers: Watch the betting on stablemate 2. Venetian Blue first-up with a gear change behind two improving trials.

How to play it: Choose Yours Words to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 CLASS 2 HCP (1400m):

Tough country five-year-old 2. Mittata has hit the line from around midfield in his last three, and is ready to win again in preferred soft going.

Dangers: Consistent 1. You Are King is the immediate threat hard fit from a handy trailing draw, and also reacts in soft going; while 3. Belleistic Kids; 5. Discreet Miss and 6. White Liar can all fight for the minor money.

How to play it: Mittata to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 MAIDEN PLATE (1200m):

Like capable three-year-old 2. Crinkle Cutz resuming behind a steady trial, and has a real liking for wet tracks.

Dangers: Big watch on 3. Final Comment first-up off two trials; while 5. Sebastian's Flyer who draws the fence and 10. Impending Harmony second-up; head the rest.

How to play it: Crinkle Cutz to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 CLASS 1 HCP (1000m):

This shapes beautifully for metro three-year-old and good soft tracker 1. Wondereach who was close-up when resuming in a much deeper CL2, and gets a key gear change

Dangers: The market will tell a story with 4. The Gift who resumes from the inside gate with a claim having not been seen publicly at the trials. Include both 5. Dehero reloading off a six week break and quiet trial; and 2. De Port off a fighting first-up heavy track win at the provincials; in exotics.

How to play it: Wondereach to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 5 MAIDEN PLATE (1000m):

Exciting metro-based Star Witness filly 6. Frilled looks too good for this lot on debut behind two recent dominant trial wins; the latest romping home by nine lengths in slick soft track time. Bred to thrive on rain affected ground.

Dangers: Keep safe rival city filly 9. Terra Mater who resumes for a second prep also behind two eye-catching trials, winning the latest easily in soft ground. Huge gap to the rest.

How to play it: Frilled to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1600m):

Like an honest five-year-old 5. Jimmy Manolo who has been up for a long time, but finds a weaker race. Surged home from midfield to thrash CL1 opposition two starts ago before again working home okay in a tougher provincial CL1.

Dangers: Improving 7. Spellz will find this easier from the inside draw; while 1. El Lago can peak second-up in a weaker race despite carrying a big weight.

How to play it: Jimmy Manolo to win
Odds and Evens: Odds a special

Race 7 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1100m):

Keen on progressive four-year-old 2. As You Were who can make it two straight third-up after sweeping home to win a similar graded race three weeks back.

Dangers: : Big watch on 4. Calmer Karma fourth-up from a softer draw, and back from provincial class; while 1. Knickpoint is the best of the rest.

How to play it: As You Were to win
Odds and Evens: Evens

BEST BETS:
R4 1. WONDEREACH
R5 6. FRILLED

BEST VALUE:
R6 5. JIMMY MANOLO
