Neil Evans' Tips For Muswellbrook (Tuesday)

By Neil Evans

Track Good 4 and rail true

Race 1 MAIDEN HCP (1280m):

Tough and open maiden to start, but settled on improving and tough filly 7. Fiery Panz who has been gradually working towards a win all prep. Placed in her last three at Tamworth, the latest sliced through between runners from midfield to only go under to a handy one by a long neck, and hard fit is even better suited here getting onto a bigger track.

Dangers: Plenty of them headed by 6. Croatian Madame first-up from the inside gate off a steady trial. Similarly keep safe improving 2. Xtra Intent who will appreciate more ground second-up; while 3. Bit Of A Step and 11. Roclind Lad both go into wider exotic bets.

How to play it: Fiery Panz each way
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 CLASS 2 HCP (1000m):

Good quality sprint for this class. Keen on progressive metro four-year-old 2. Unwritten to make it two straight this prep. Finished over the top easily in a small field first-up, and while there's more depth and class here, he's got plenty more to offer on a suitably bigger track.

Dangers: Honest mare 1. I'm Not Slew blotted a handy record in a stronger CL3 Highway at Randwick failing to run home, but previous form in city and provincial class more than enough to be right in this finish from a low draw, despite shooting up to 60kg. Must include dominant last start BM 58 winner 6. Play My Song who is fit and well placed form the inside draw; while 7. Pyramid Of Fire behind a tidy fourth-up maiden win can run into the minor money from a handy trailing draw.

How to play it: Unwritten to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 MAIDEN HCP (900m):

Delighted to see untapped yet wayward provincial four-year-old 3. Secret Spy finally making his debut after several setbacks over the past 18 months, although also accepted for Taree but more likely to start here. Is a full brother to top notch Group 1 winner Private Eye, and always showed plenty right back to his initial trial win at this track in the spring of 2021. Looks to have overcome some injuries judging by a dominant provincial trial win at Wyong three weeks ago, and his work either side has been that of a gelding who may reach Group company with any decent slice of luck. Just a little query on his barrier manners, but if he leaves the machine with them and settles, can put this lot to the sword and run time.

Dangers: Basically just depends on how the top selection returns, but another debutant, Pariah three-year-old 6. County Sheriff is a big watch behind two recent trials, winning the latest. Keep safe too 1. Russian Standard drawn wide second-up; 4. Snowdrop resuming; and 8. Nonshalaant third-up; all go in trifecta and first fours.

How to play it: Secret Spy to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 BENCHMARK 66 HCP (1500m):

This shapes nicely for still improving four-year-old 2. Seahaven fourth-up. Won here fresh six weeks ago, and ran up to win at his latest against similar opposition before being edged out by a nose. Better suited back on the bigger circuit, and the regular "Raging Bull" is also back in the saddle.

Dangers: No doubt improving 4. Danza In The Dark is over the odds fourth-up after chasing well in similar company two weeks ago. A pair of five-year-old mares, 6. Fusaichi Family who is consistent; and 7. Majestic Wings peaking fourth-up; both represent each-way value.

How to play it: Seahaven to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 5 CLASS 2 HCP (1750m):

Prepared to forgive capable four-year-old 5. Unzaga who got checked and caught up behind a slow one at Scone under a big weight, and missed his window. The drop in distance and carrying 2kg less are both plusses, and he draws to find an ideal trail just off the speed.

Dangers: Lightly raced and impressive last start maiden winner 12. Hammoon Thunder who gets winkers added; while 9. Starboard Light clearly heads the rest third-up.

How to play it: Unzaga to win.
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 MAIDEN PLATE (1500m):

Like emerging metro three-year-old 5. Bo Bo Beware with blinkers going on second-up. Made up late ground resuming in city company for only his second start, and the extra furlong and much bigger and less turning track are huge factors for this gelding by Dundeel.

Dangers: Improving 4. Air Bentley looms as the biggest threat second-up.

How to play it: Bo Bo Beware to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 7 CLASS 1 HCP (1280m):

Open and good quality sprint to finish, but nothing is better placed than improving four-year-old 5. Lightfast from a softer draw fourth-up, and three weeks between runs. Has chased well and hit the line in his last two, but you only have to peruse the breeding to know this much bigger track will suit him far better. Should camp behind the speed with cover and produce a superior closing 400m.

Dangers: Exciting three-year-old 2. Piraeus comes off a tidy maiden win at Gosford. At bigger odds, keep safe locally-trained 8. Herne Hill who rubber-stamped some solid form by surging home to claim his maiden a fortnight ago; while 4. Tiva Bay fourth-up off a six week break and quiet trial is the best of the rest.

How to play it: Lightfast to win
Odds and Evens: Odds

BEST BETS:
R4 2. SEAHAVEN
R6 5. BO BO BEWARE

BEST VALUE:
R7 5. LIGHTFAST
